My classmates are Jellyfish!!- Spineless

Published

I am sooo sick of my class. I don't go to school, I go to an aquarium surrounded by spineless jellyfish.

It seems that I am always made out to look bad. Ex. Today, we had a 5 chp. Med-Surg test & just came off of 2 days of team-nursing clinicals. Well, after Med-Surg we had pharm. Today, we were suppose to have a math-test (for daily grade). Before our instructor came in, I asked how many people's brains are fried & would like to see if we can take the math test on Monday? Some people raised their hands. So.....when the instructor came in, I told her that "we are worn-out & could we PLEASE!!! take the math test on Monday" She said she didn't realize we had a major test today & if that is what the rest of the class wants, it's ok w/her. WELL, wouldn't you know, everyone just stared at her w/a blank look on their face when she asked that. AND, 1 girl said, "can we take it today if we wanted too?" And she said sure. WELL, EVERYONE DECIDED TO TAKE IT :angryfire I felt like a dumb---! This isn't the first time something like this has happened.

I'M SICK OF MY CLASSMATES! It is sad, but when/if I graduate in August - I am not going into the transition RN program. I do not want to be stuck with these people again, I am going to do an online course.

I just needed to vent. :uhoh3:

I used to fall into that trap,too...and get very pizzed...and waste a lot of my good positive energy in a very negative way....You know what? I don't do it any longer-let others speak for themselves.I am no super hero...And when I have to speak up I am trying to learn to do it in a politically correct manner...It's no fun getting a reputation at work and being cut off at the knees every time you have an idea because your administration is tired of hearing the sound of your voice ...Maybe one of the reasons this keeps happening to you is because some of your class mates want to see you take it on the chin? Maybe a few of them have the same kind of opinion of you that you seem to have of them? That happens to "aggressive" women (nothing against you-I am coming to terms with this myself) It has taken me many years to learn how to pick my battles-and when to just shut up....It really is no fun being the rebel all of the time-it is very tiring....Your teacher gave a head on assessment of you-I am the "smoother over-er" also...I want everyone to be content and it ain't always possible....Another very hard lesson to learn and as a charge nurse in LTC a very valuable one....I can't make the staff be happy-I can be fair but now and then someone is going to have a bad day....But-that does not mean it is ABOUT ME..... I am still working on this,too......Jen-I feel your pain......Here's hoping you join me on the journey to learning to please ourselves....and letting everyone else fight their own battles and please themselves.... ...I also forgot to mention this........"Oh-patient in room 203-can you please code tomorrow? I am not up to it today"........I don't remember our class every asking to postpone an assignment or exam.....

I don't want to be a PITA or anything but when I read the OP's post first thing I thought was that maybe SHE wasn't addressing the issue in a positive way w/ the prof.

then when I read her follow-up after someone was kinda non-supportive I was SURE of it.

I don't mean to come down on the OP but I had someone in my class who was like you are....she kinda thought she was the class rep. but it wasn't that that drove the rest of us nuts..it was the way she presented these issues.

She was VERY disrespectful of the professors and her 'spin' on these issues was GUILT...like they shoudl feel bad for wanting us to take a test til we passed...or give us 60 pages of reading ....in a tone that couldn't be mistaken as anything less than patronizing......then say "and everyone agrees"...

of course when ASKED...we all denied it....because we may think 60 pages on top of a major test the next day wasn't IDEAL we certainly don't think being disrespectful is the way to change that....so while we agreed w/ her originial issue...we didn't agree on how it was presented.

I think that may be your problem. I say if your not the class rep don't assume that role.

Funny thing happened today. Everybody wanted to delay a test but I didn't. I really wanted to be done with it and would have said so. However, a good friend asked me not to speak up because she really needed the extra time. So I gave her a break and kept my mouth shut.

Just thought it was kinda ironic in light of this thread. :chuckle
