Well I took my Accuplacer Test today. I got 102 in English, Reading, and Arithmetic. However, I got a 46% in Elementary Algebra. I get to retake the Algebra part of the test in two days. I need so much help with it. All I have to do to pass is get a 63% which is just a 16 point difference, but I do not remember any of my algebra. Not scoring well on this test they say means that I will not score well on the TEAS test. What worries me most is the school I want to attend only allows one try at the TEAS test. If I fail it then that is it, I cannot go to that school for the nursing program. If anyone can help with the Algebra, I would be happy to help them with English in return. I am excellent at English, it was going to be my major until I realized that there is no real future there. LOL!!!

first, deep breath, it will be okay!
my school, and most other schools with nursing programs, require you to take all of your pre req's before you can even apply to the actual nursing program itself. for other schools that do not require this, you would likely still be out of luck because almost everyone applying to nursing schools knows how competitive it is, so they take those pre req's.
perhaps you should focus on taking your college algebra, or the developmental algebra if needed, eng 111(and other eng class), chemistry, a&p1&2, psychology and developmental psychology, first.
take the teas once you have taken your pre req's, this knowledge and information will be helpful.
you will most likely not be accepted into nursing school without having taken your pre req's. i say this because i know that every school in nc requires it, or gives preferential treatment for those who have taken them, and almost all students here on allnurses discuss the need for every single pre req to be taken before application/acceptance.
:)
nursing is not a guaranteed job anymore, btw. it is not in high demand, new grads are not finding jobs, and you may be looking for quite sometime. my point is that if you are considering nursing because it is supposed to be in "high demand", you should re-think your choice.

thank you for the information and the advise. however, the school i have chosen only requires you to take the teas test to get into the program. it is really cool. i do have to take the pre-req still but i can take them after i have taken the teas test and am assured a spot in the nursing program. i am attending an accredited career college. i really like the school. they have been trying to help me pass the algebra section of the accuplacer test. i have a friend that went to a community college two years ago and is still on a waiting list to get into the nursing program. i may be paying a little more for my education in the long run, but it is worth it to know that i am guaranteed to be accepted into the nursing program, that is if i can pass the teas test. lol!!! however, since i got my teas study guide i am not as worried about passing it as i was before because it is a lot easier than i thought it was going to be. i do not have time to waste two years waiting to get into a nursing program. and no i am not going into nursing only because it is listed as a high demand career. i know that there really are no more high demand careers anymore with the economy the way it is. i am going into nursing because i love helping people, i have the compassion that is needed to make a good nurse. i also love learning about everything medical. anatomy and physiology was my favorite class when i took the cna course. i love learning about how the body works. i am good at it. i have always known i would go into nursing, but it just took me a long time to actually get to it. i love english too, but there is a better chance of me getting a job as a nurse than getting a job in the english field. lol!!! i don't know how it is where you are from but here in florida there is nothing in the paper but it jobs, sales jobs, and nursing jobs.

I just saw this. Hope you did okay on the retest. I studied Algebra for 6 weeks before taking my school's placement test. I suppose if I worked hard at it, I could have done it in 3 or 4 weeks but not 2 days. Just too much to cover in such a short period and only doable with previous Algebra success.
Well, I got the same score on my retest as I got the first time. What I don't understand is that on the TEAS practice test in my study guide I did excellent and did not miss a single question. The math questions must be harder on the Accuplacer than the TEAS test. I have one more shot to take the Algebra on the Accuplacer, but the school is doing everything to help me. I am getting lots of tutoring help from a computer program that they have, but it still is not helping me with three problems that I am having the most difficulty with. I have tried to find the answers online, but cannot seem to, and every site I go to wants me to pay before they answer my three questions. I was hoping to get help from this site, but no one seems to want to help.

My daughter had to take the accuplacer to get into her Algebra class. I bought her a subscription (about 30/month) to the website yourteacher.com I don't normally pay for sites, but they have videos, notes, problem walk throughs and entire study plans for specific exams and classes, one being the accuplacer. They have sample lessons on youtube, here is one for you to look at
The site was very helpful for my daughter. She had an initial 65, but needed an 85 to get into College Algebra. She studied off the site for 6 weeks, retook the accuplacer and got a 112 in Algebra, the highest mark anyone in her school has gotten.
I am in no way affiliated with the site, I discovered it when I was taking the same algebra class and needed help with the basics that I had forgotten in the last 20 years. I hope it might be able to help you.
Good luck!

Thank you for the info, I have been watching the videos on youtube for the last few days. They are great. I would love to get a subscription, but it cost too much. But the school is giving me a tutoring class.
