Does anyone know if this is a good program? I'm thinking about applying for it for Fall '08, but I don't know anyone who has gone to the school. I would love to know anything from quality of faculty to design of the program to how difficult it is to get accepted. Do most people who start the program graduate? Does anyone work during the program? Really anything would be very appreciated!

What is your email address?

Although it's been a while since I applied to school, I was out of state and got accepted. They seem to have plenty of in state applications so I don't see why this would affect your application. That seems very strange to me. Maybe after all of this craziness of answering anxious phone calls is over you can call and ask them about it.

Congratulations to everyone who got in. It is a great program!

ShaneP,

I'm out of state and I was accepted for fall 2011 class.. Prior to get my acceptance letter i spoke to lady in enrollment office who told me that being out of states was not in my favor... but I guess i had other good things on my favor. I'm really excited and nervous about starting this fall. I've done tons of research about MUSC and I feel blessed to have been offered a seat. I'm relocating from FL and I've been looking at some of the places the have for rent. Anyone know for sure of any good places close to school and safe.

Look on craigslist. I have several friends who live downtown near campus so they can walk to class and clinical. None of them have ever had a scare as far as safety is concerned. If you want to live away from campus, west ashley is very convenient as is James Island and parts of Mt pleasant.

Thank you futurenurse711 and Annaiya! I'm glad to hear that there is still hope for us "out-of-staters". Do you guys have any tips that you can share that you think helped made you stand out against the rest?

FYI for anyone who has not lived in Charleston before, the down town floods when it rains and is high tide. We had a couple of classmates first semester have their cars totaled due to being flooded. I didn't like the commute, but was glad to not live down town when it rained. I would not recommend Summerville, the drive is terrible. But I liked West Ashley.

Shane, do you mean for your application to stand out, or in class? Nursing was a second career for me, so I think my previous career helped me get in. I was also the last class that had to take the GRE and my scores were really good, so I got admitted under the early admission. Also had a 4.0 in my nursing prereqs.

From what I've heard from other applicants, both those who have and haven't gotten in, it seems like GPA is extremely important. I had a 3.8 in undergrad and 4.0 in prereqs and I did get in. After that, it seems like you need at least a year's experience in a medical field; my experience was working as a health educator and doula for AmeriCorps in Denver (which I would highly recommend to anyone). I don't know, those are just my best guesses.

I have a question about scholarships: I found the MUSC foundation page for scholarships, but I can't figure out how to get more info about individual scholarships listed on that page, or how to apply for them. Help please!

I have started a facebook group for the newest additions to the MUSC College of Nursing. Check it out and add yourself! It's called "MUSC BSN Class of 2013". Any suggestions from current nurses on this thread about preparing for the fall? What can we do over the next few months to be ready for nursing school?

I can't find it. Could you add me instead? Andre Estrada

Thanks

I'm applying for Spring 2012. I'm so stinkin' nervous! The applications open up July 1st. I have a 3.94 overall GPA and a 4.0 in pre-req's. I'm currently in the SCRUBS program at the hospital and also volunteer at another section of the hospital. I'm still so nervous and feel like I won't get in : /

I'll have everything done when I apply, hoping to apply for priority admission. I'm nervous about the essay.

hello everyone,

I just got accepted for this coming Fall 2011. For those people who also wants to apply for Spring 2012 or later, do not worried.

My grades are not that good, I made B's on some of my classes including A&P I and Microbiology, which are priority classes. I don't even have a bachelor's degree and I have never had a job in a medical field. With all those negative things I have mentioned, there are positive qualities that I possess. Make sure that you write a good essay, something that is from your heart, and pick three good references.

All I really wanted to say is that you might think that your not good enough for their criteria but the only way you will not have a chance to get accepted is if you don't turn in an application.

Have faith and believe in yourself.

Perhaps I got picked because I am asian and it is a necessity to have it in a group for it to be diverse :D

(For those people who got accepted for Fall 2011, join the group that Calilouyah created on Facebook).
