Hi everyone!!!
I wanted to go ahead and make a thread for MUSC's Spring 2015 hopefuls. I know it is a little bit early to start this thread, but I am just so excited. I am looking forward to everyone stats and encouragement for each other. Looking forward to the results!!!
Good morning my friends! I decided to defer and pursue my other options the school here is also fast track (16 months) and got to stay home which will save me tons of money. It was a great pleasure knowing all of you. Still going to follow this thread and good luck to everyone that got in. Good luck to the alternates as well. I hope you all get the scholarships and funds needed for school. All the best guys esp Mocapoca, DreamMUSC, musckim, Jessicnw and all the pioneers of this great thread. This is my email [email protected] you can keep in touch. Bye guys
nooooooooooo. so sorry to see you go. but i wish you the best of luck! (and i'm glad that you will be able to save money along the way!)
For those of you that have chosen to defer due to financial aid, I am sorry you're not attending the nursing program as soon as you'd hoped. I am even more stressed now since it's been mentioned a few times that we are unlikely to receive scholarships. Unlike many of you, I have undergraduate debt and it's no small amount. I don't plan on stopping at the BSN because I want to do advanced practice nursing. The thought of going over $100,000 in debt makes me sick to my stomach. :/ I know it's an investment, but I was really hoping to lower the amount I'd need to take out in loans since I'm already up to my eyeballs in debt.
What is the reason you were all given for not being able to receive those scholarships as incoming students? What is it that I am missing or not understanding?

I am not considered "need based" since I have to use my moms tax information on my FAFSA. If you are an independent and you complete your FAFSA and it delcares you have a low EFC like 0 then you will be up for financial aid. I'm hoping when I get married in May that some stuff opens up for me :) If not I have 10 months to save! Good luck to you and your financial aid questions. I would definitely not wait to address it!!

This is what I was told:
The Scholarship Committee meets in mid-November. It is unlikely you will receive a scholarship this spring, and we do not award for the summer. Once you have an established track record in the College of Nursing, it is more likely you will receive a scholarship. Most of our students have similar need and academic credentials as incoming students.
On the short scholarship application, you will have an opportunity to indicate what scholarships you qualify for based on the criteria, so be sure to complete this form as well as the FAFSA. Scholarships are generally $1000-3000 and are one-time awards only, so we suggest students plan as though they will need to cover their full expenses. Thanks,

I have a EFC of 0. I hope, despite what Ms. Long said, I am eligible for at least ONE scholarship. Every little bit helps.
Scholarships are very tricky at MUSC. Keep in mind, you have 80 students in your cohort and probably 80% them are in your same boat. The scholarship committee meets and then decides who receives what? Most awards will go to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semester students. They want to see how you perform and they will take EVERYTHING in to consideration; current grades, class participation, financial need (EFC 0), etc. Scholarships are NOT impossible to receive. Please don't forget to look elsewhere too; Barnes and Nobles sells a book that lists 10,000 different scholarships, you just have to do some legwork. EVERYONE will be okay, take a deep breath and think positive thoughts!
hi guys,
i got admitted to the program too!! and am coming from Oregon
i have some few questions for the S. Carolina residents on here and i hope you guys can be of help.
1. first of all i would like to know how reliable the public transport system is, i will have to depend on that for some few weeks before my car gets to SC or better still i may not bring a car at all. Can i do the program without a car????
2. what are some of the '' good but cheap'' neighborhoods i should consider? preferably places not too far from campus about a mile or two will do
i have so many questions, but these are the most pressing ones.
please help me out i need to make a decision ASAP!!

Good luck to you! I know of one other alternate that has changed their mind and will not be attending, so things should really be looking up for some alternates.
