Murrieta, CA new home- which hospitals in area have new grad programs?

I will be moving to the Murrieta, CA area after I graduate w/my BSN from Nevada in Sept of this year. I had some questions as to which hospitals w/in an hour's commute are good to work for? Which hospitals have new grad programs? I've been contacting some of the hospitals and am finding out that it seems like all the ones w/new grad programs have you wait until Jan or Feb to start them. I'd prefer to start working ASAP (plan to do the NCLEX Sept or Oct, basically ASAP after I graduate nursing school so I don't forget things!haha) as I need the money and want to retain my skills. Any advice would be appreciated!

I have been looking just a little, I live in that area, but I am only a first semester student. I know Loma linda and Polmerado health have new grad programs but only at certain times of the year, usually spring (for Dec grads) and June for (may grads). There are a couple local hospitals, Inland valley, Rancho springs and Hemet valley. They hire new grads but not sure if they have a specific new grad program. I do my clinical at Hemet not sure I would recomend that place for a new grad, it might be ok for someone with more experience but a new grad needs all the support they can get and I think it would be hard to get that in that hospital. JMO

Thanks for the info. I haven't gotten any response back from the nurse recruiter at Inland Valley or Rancho Springs. So I'm still not sure if they have new grad programs. What do you think of the area of Murrieta/Temecula? We don't know anyone in the area and have only seen the area once. So just trying to get an idea what the towns are like. We currently live in Las Vegas and want something smaller and w/better schools (my son will be going into kindergarden and my daughter is in preschool). Palomar sounds like a good place to work, but you're right about having to wait until Jan for the new grad program before you can work. I wanted to get started sooner than that and get my studen loans paid down!haha Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

I love the area, I live in Temecula have been here 6 years now and it is really wonderful. We are in dire need of good hospitals though and you will see it's quite a shocker. Palomar has a new grad program in the summer too and they also have extern positions posted right now too might be the way to go. I can't really say anything about Inland valley we use them for clinicals but I have not gone there yet, it seems like they have a good reputation among the other students, I should be going in the Fall, maybe I'll see you there )

Well coming from places that had a really good sized, well equiped updated hospitals, I feel like I am back in the dark ages. The area grew really fast and no one seemed to plan for health care, they are trying to build another hospital, but nothing has been done about it yet. So far the two hospitals I am familar with have potential but they are so small, understaffed and poorly equiped. The one in Hemet inparticular is facing finiancial crisis and has gotten rid of all but 3 CNA's (for the entire hospitals). The poor RN's work their tails off trying to do it all, the support staff too has also been cut back (no unit clerks on all floors usually a float) lack of equipment to do your job etc... I came here from Chicago I worked in the same size hospital that had computer charting, plenty of support staff and great benefits/ great patient care. I am not knocking any of these hospitals or their staff, I have seen some fabulous nurses and many have really heped me a great deal this semester. I just think the medical situation in this area is very very neglected.

I can see how you would feel like you're stepping back in time w/a move from Chicago to there. Luckily, they say Las Vegas has crappy healthcare so anything will be an improvement!haha I guess I'll try hard to get into Palomar Medical Center rather than trying for Inland Valley or Rancho Springs. Thanks for letting me know about the Hemet hospital. I had no idea things were so bad there!

My husband's job will be North of Riverside, CA. Any ideas of other areas that are good to live in that are closer to Riverside? We're heard bad thigns about Riverside and Moreno Valley. Not sure if it's all true or not. Have you heard anything about the Corona Medical Center, TriCity Medical Center (Oceanside, CA), Scripps Memorial Hospital (Encinitas, CA), or Riverside Community Hospital? Those are other hospitals I've considered commuting to. Thanks again!

Hi michelle,

I don't know really anything about the hospitals in those areas, I know we do a semester in the fall at Riverside community everyone seems to like it there. Scripts, Encinitas anything in San Diego really is better then here, however those are long commutes, Corona riverside would be easier for you. The coastal cities aren't too far, however it isn't very direct.

As far as what cities to live in, we were in the same situation as you, my husband works north of here, he chose to commute rather than live in the city where he is working. There are some nice areas up north, but there are some areas you probably want to steer clear of too. I think you said Schools were important to you, so look around for good school districts, that was why we chose Temecula it's one of the best school systems in the district. It's a great time to move out here too, housing has really come way down!

My husband has been warned to avoid Riverside and surrounding areas, so sounds like that's true also. It looks like Corona might be easier commute than Riverside since I doubt many people head towards LA for work. I assume alot of people work in Riverside or San Diego, but I could be wrong on that. I've heard Corona and Riverside have really bad air quality and the Temecula/Murrieta area is better. Is that true?

I'd love to work near the beach, but from the maps it doesn't appear to be the most direct commute in the world.

Do you have children? I was curiuos if they like the area in Temecula. We'd like to get a house w/a big back yard w/grass. Here in Vegas the back yards are made of rocks for the most part. Are there any areas in Temecula that are better than others (not real expensive, down to earth people, etc)?

Sounds like you are getting very good information,These are probably the things I would say to you as well. I don't know so much about a big back yard (track housing and all). There is plenty of horse property around in Temecula, just depending on your budget. If you PM me I can give you more detailed info on the better areas to live in (just don't want to give out too much on the public board). I have 3 kids 9,9, and 11 they love Temecula, my husband moves a lot for work and we talk about moving but my kids would be sad. We walk to school, they have been going since kinder (my daughter) and preschool for the twins. The middle school my daughter is starting at in the fall is also withing walking distance, we have community pool within walking distance and we have relitively speaking a good size back yard. I do love it here, we are very close to the beach (we go once a week in the summer). We go camping, there is mountains, wine country in Temecula is beautiful, the desert is close everything within an hour. San Diego is beautiful too but it is a bit far, and expensive but with housing taking a nose dive the way it is you will make out well here and it's sure to go back up again someday.
