Multiple Time test taker and FINALLY PASSED! 76Questions My experience

Published

WOW! Let me just tell you all..... ITS BEEN ONE HELL OF A JOURNEY!!!! BUT if i can do it.... anyone can do it. DON'T YOU EVER GIVE UP!!!!!

I promised myself that i would write on here the day i finally pass my exam...So many of you always inspired me everyday.. when i still managed to struggle over and over again with this NCLEX..... well..here i am... Officially an RN BSN =)

(sounds so good to say that)

Well this is all i can say... I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING... YOU NAME IT I TRIED IT.. spent so much money on different books...Different reviews...Different techniques...etc.

So when i graduated nursing school my first attempt was Kaplan... and then in between my first attempt to my last attempt i tried a bunch of other review courses... Davis, Lacharty, Nclex4000, Uprep, Saunders and even Hurst review....my last attempt... (refuse to tell you how many i took it because i know there has been some rude people on here that have put multiple test takers down for taking it for many times) but for my last attempt... something told me to go back to Kaplan....SO I DID....

Everyday i would wake up at 9am.. shower, eat a good breakfast and then pack up my bags and books like i'm about to go camp out at the lib...get there by 11... and stay till about 830-9pm. everyday for about 6 weeks straight... I MEAN EVEN ON THE WEEKENDS. No lie... I dedicated myself because i was at a breaking point in my life... and wanted this so badly... in all this 6 weeks i even lost a BF of 3 years... but i fought it through and stayed focused... this is what i used and ONLY USED...

Kaplan online videos - Content along with the content book

Kaplan online videos- on Questions

Kaplan online Qbank

Kaplan online QT 4 and 5

NCSBN- study guide detail plan ( 63 page one )

I went by CLIENT NEED....that's it... don't go by system by system...go by Client needs.. follow the detail study guide and read what each section contains... and what they are asking for you to know... for NCLEX... understand that and do videos on content..and read along with the book and make notes and understand what each client need section is asking. I did 2-3 days per client need... at the end... after you understand one section at a time.. you follow up with Qbank questions about 100 a day...and aimed for 60% or higher.. if you got lower.. thats when you know your low in THAT SECTION and you go back and review.. AFTER i come home at 830.. i ate dinner and showered then relaxed for 30 min... and then at 11pm I started right back up... and just ONLY WATCH question videos on Kaplan... ON THE SECTION you did that day... all you do is lay in bed and watch the lady breakdown the questions and understand how to breakdown the question..THIS HELPED ME SO MUCH on Test taking strategies for Nclex...

I did this routine for 5 full weeks and on the 6th week... i did nothing but Qbank questions and QT 4 and QT 5

i scored a 65.7% on QT4 and a 65.3% on QT5 =)

IT ALL HELPED ME SO MUCH because when i was in the exam i could honestly tell you... what section the question was from... and what they were looking for in the questions because of the detailed study plan along with kaplans client need videos...

So I got to question #75 and my computer didnt shut off... so i was like WHAAAAATTTT arghhhhh so took a deep breath and prayed....answered question 76... and BHAM... screen turned blue.. and my legs went NUMB lol..... got in the car...5 min after i got done with my test.. and did the PVT trick... and GOT THE GOOD POP up... I cannot even tell you how loud i screamed.. started balling and just couldn't believe it..2.5 years later... of hard work studying my butt off with so many ups and down...depression and back....... finally conquered this test..

I just wanted MULTIPLE TEST TAKERS out there.. to know... DONT EVER LET THIS TEST BREAK U DOWN... DONT EVER LET THIS TEST MAKE U FEEL LIKE A FAILURE.. AS THOUGH YOUR NOT GOOD ENOUGH.... DONT EVER GIVE UP.... PRAY PRAY PRAY... HAVE FAITH AND PATIENCE AND WITH GODS TIMING AND PRAYERS... I PROMISE YOU.. EVERYTHING HAPPENS AT THE RIGHT TIME... FOR THE RIGHT REASONS...I never gave up.. i had people tell me... " are you sure you want to do this? are you sure this is what you want to do? maybe you should change your field... try something different" NO WAY... i refuse for the devil to win.. i kept fighting and Never gave up... and now i can officially say I AM A RN BSN!!!! its possible... and if i can do it.. so can you! This test will not determine if you are a good nurse or not.... I PROMISE.. because I'm confident, I know, i will be an amazing NURSE despite my struggles through this journey with Nclex. some people are just horrible test takers, and that's me.. but Ill be one hell of a nurse =) So again. NEVER GIVE UP AND KEEP SWIMMING... =)

With love,

From the most Happiest RN alive today

Congrats!!! You are ambitious, driven, and exactly the type of nurse I would want taking care of my family and myself.

I am just getting ready to take the exam, haven't studied the way I should be so I'm going to take my test a few weeks after I get my number. I have been doing 50 questions a day and remediating. I only use Kaplan. I do not know which study guide you're taking about?!? I wish I had the time that you had to study, but I work and also take other courses for another program. I devote 2 hours and am going to start watching videos. Fingers crossed here. Congrats again!

Hooray for you!!! Whoohooo!!

Personally, I think you'll make an awesome nurse! I would choose a nurse who really has dedication, diligence, and perseverance (like you've shown!!) over someone who happens to he blessed with good test taking skills

Thank u so much guys all these messages are so amazing! You guys have no idea! I was that girl who got on this site every night before bed and read everyone's stories! And I would go to bed saying.. ONE DAY that will be me and I'm going to post a message about my success! And I did! :) I'm telling you guys, that feeling of passing is indescribable!!!! For multiple test time takers that is! I mean all the hard work sweat blood and tears.. All come down to the REWARD!! For 3 years I was tired of sitting in the same study room hours upon hours days after days! I even became friends with the security guy who would open an empty classroom for me on Sundays when campus would be closed! That's how much I dedicated time and studying! I promise u guys, u do the time you will def see the reward! :)

I'm a multiple test taker... I struggle with severe test anxiety (on my 2nd try I had multiple brain farts & a inner panic attack when I looked at the clock, I froze like a deer in the headlights) I just did my 3rd attempt today July 2nd. I honestly could not have studied harder, I denied TV a social life, even had to put my children & husband on back burner. I am so ready to move on and get to working... I did the PVT when I got home from the exam... I got the HOLD msg I started balling my eyes out... Is this a good sign or bad? According to the forums here it can go either way? I was so dehydrated & on the verge of hypoglycemia, when I cried no tears came down. In ugly cry form that just looked like bad theatrics. Anyway it's about midnight here and no change. My mom called while I was stuffing my face & she had me crying again. My mom is so supportive she'd say anything to make me happy.

Btw i did the whole 6hrs & did 198 questions, I did about 9hrs of study time everyday. I am burnt out. When I said to my husband today I hope I passed because I am so tired of sitting at that desk and missing out hanging out with you guys. He quickly replied believe me you aren't the only one tired of you sitting there. He's been unbelievably supportive. I'm exhausted but I'm not a quitter

Did u pass girl?!? Tell me you passed!! :) your story reminded me of me!!! That was me! I have severe test anxiety! Diagnosed with panic disorder! And on top I'm type 1 diabetic so trust me I had all sorts of issues! But it's okay... GOD WORKS IN WONDERS! I promise it.. It's all on gods timing! Soooooooo did u pass?!?! :)

Congrats Rn4rmFL !

You are an inspiration for multiple test taker like me too. God bless!

Congrats! It must be such a relief! :)

Congrats to you!! I failed my Nclex on the 1st time last week, i was really down and upset with myself. After reading your post on how you passed, i printed off the test plan and im going to use what you said on how to study and hope i pass on my second time!! Congrats again on passing, i cant wait to have that feeling!

Congratz to you!

"This test will not determine if you are a good nurse or not..." I just had this thought today! I thought that by me not passing this test, that meant I would be a horrible nurse.... I also felt that maybe I should do something else. I noticed that you mentioned patience and prayer as well.... These were all things that I was questioning myself about earlier today.... I thank God for you and your journey, because you have confirmed for me that I too can make my dream a reality. ... Thank you sooooo much !!!!!!!

You state read along with the book and watching the video. What book are you talking about? When I registered for kaplan they did not provide a book or do you mean to buy the kaplan book and follow along with the video? By the way I truly appreciate your comment. I have taken this exam probably the same amount of time you have taken the exam. For the past couple of weeks I have been trying to figure out where do I begin studying and what can i use to study. I have used all the material you have mentioned. I am going to registered with kaplan again and give my 100% attention and energy. I thank you so much for your comment.

Congrats RN, I am going to follow your study routine. All the best in your career!

I was thinking the same. How do we use it? Turn the subjects into question?
