Multicare RN Residency beginning 8/22/16- Anyone joining this cohort?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Hi everyone ,

I just got a job offer at Multicare Good Sam RN residency program and I'm feeling nervous and overwhelmed. Not too sure what to expect since I'm moving to Washington from Hawaii for this position. Some of my friends, who I graduated with last December, moved/moving to WA to pursue RN residencis at other hospitals. As of now, I'm the only person from my graduating class to pursue a career with Multicare.

Is there any one else joining the August cohort either from instate or out of state? Would be nice to see/talk to a familiar face.

Much mahalos!!!

I'm in the Good Sam RN residency too. Going to ICU. Can't wait to start!

Congrats!

Does anyone know anything about what happens after our first day of orientation? It was explained to me that there would be mostly classroom type activities for the first couple of weeks, but I have no idea on the dress code/locations of this. any ideas?

I am getting ready to finish my Multicare residency (NICU), and for my first two weeks we did a lot of class-type stuff with the entire residency group, not just your unit/hospital.

Okay, now for some answers...

1. Dress code is business casual for the first day, and after that they told us that we could either wear business casual or scrubs.

2. Locations for the first two weeks of classes will vary, and you should receive your schedule at NEO (New Employee Orientation)

Please don't take my word as gospel, as things are subject to change, but this is what they have done in the past. Best of luck to you all in your residency - the time will absolutely fly by!

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure I shouldn't be running out to buy scrubs...I don't have any! The last area I was in required nurses to wear certain scrub colors or uniforms from the hospital so I didn't want to waste money on fun scrubs if we weren't allowed to wear them!

Each hospital and unit may have different dress code requirements, and you may be allowed to wear whatever scrubs you wish at work, but definitely check with your manager first :) If you get to wear scrubs of your choosing, then by all means, have fun!

Good morning guys!! I got an email from multicare from Multicare that they are considering me for an RN residency program in Tacoma General Hospital. I have 8 years of experience and I applied for critical care Residency program. It will start on October 31,2016. I'm a foreign graduate so I really don't know what will happen but I'm hoping they will accept me.

Hi Missie Hannie,

For the first two weeks after NEO, how was your schedule like? Was it 8 or 12 hour days for 5 days straight?

I guess replying the same day that you have NEO isn't all that helpful (sorry 'bout that), but the schedule for the first two weeks really depends on your hospital and department. By now I guess you've all gotten your schedules, so you already have the answer to the schedule questions. The first class at the old church is pretty good - take time to get to know the other residents, as you will be seeing a lot of them over the next few months!

Best of luck with your residency!

Hello Missie Hannie,

I had recently been interviewed for a NICU residency as well. Since you have already finished the residency program, I was wondering if you have any tips on transitioning into a new grad nurse on the NICU floor. Also, how did you like the Multicare NICU residency program?

danicaone,

I'll be in TGH for May 2018 cohort, can you give me some advice regarding their new grad program. Also, I am moving from HI also. 🤙🏽
