Mt. SAC (Mt. San Antonio College) 2014 apps are reopened!

Published

Just thought I'd toss out a friendly note that Mt. SAC (city of Walnut) has finally REOPENED applications to their ADN program starting SPRING 2014. Those that apply right now up until the last date which I think is somewhere in October will be applying for spring of 2014, and so on. It was closed for about a year to a year and a half due to switching acceptance systems from Lottery-based to Multi-Criteria Screening. The main reason for the closure was to ensure that every person left on the lottery system had gotten into the program before switching to the new one (makes it fair on part of those that have been waiting).

The multi-criteria screening is basically like the point system. You get a certain number of points based on your core requisite GPA, overall GPA, hospital experience, any degrees, and so on. Some of your points come from your core-requisite GPA (anatomy, physiology, and microbiology) which is 40 points, then next is your score on the HESI test which is a max of 30, and then your overall GPA/if you hold a bachelors which is another 10 each. There are a couple others but they give less than 10 points. You can google the Mt. SAC ADN program and look at the specifics yourself and how many points you have.

Some quick notes:

They accept 60 students every semester (fall and spring) but they can accept up to 90 depending on the budget (but of course in these days, it'll most likely stay at 60). There is a 4 day mandatory orientation, ALL day (no lie...) prior to the start of the semester where all accepted students AND alternates must attend. If you need clarity on anything, call the nursing department and they'd definitely give you more of a heads up than I have done.

So yeah, good luck to you all and hopefully last long enough for you guys to see me in third/fourth semester

Hi guys, I hope you all are well and having a great summer!! I was on Cal State Fullerton's website and came across this info. I wondered if anyone knew about this program? If you have any idea how this work can you let me know. Thx!!

RN-BSN Jump Start Summer 2014

On Monday, June 2, 2014, students in the RN-BSN Jump Start program attended the Jump Start Orientation on the CSUF campus. The Jump Start program allows students to take 1 or 2 RN-BSN courses while they are completing an ADN program. Community Colleges represented by this year's Jump Start program include Golden West College, Mt. San Antonio College, Riverside Community College, Saddleback College, and Santa Ana College. The half-day orientation allowed students to get acquainted with the technology that will be used in their online class as well as the ability to meet their professors and classmates.

I've never heard of this, but it sounds great! Maybe something to look into for next summer. I wonder if it's a pilot program or something? Very cool though!

Hi guys, I saw these shoes and I wasn't sure if they would be ok for the program. Can you tell me what you think?

Thanks.

Hello, for those who got accepted to Mt. Sac Fall program, can you please tell me your average science GPA and entrance exam score? Thank you. I am working toward my prerequisites and trying to see how much of a boost I need to be eligible. Thanks in advance :)

Those should be okay! They were a little vague on what exactly they wanted for shoes. They had to be white and easy to clean. Those look good to me!

Hi! My science GPA was 3.66 and I got a 90.8% on my HESI. My counselor said it was my HESI score that was the most important factor to me getting in. Good luck! :)

How did you prepare? One month? Did you take a Hesi test prep course?

I crammed for it about 2 weeks in advance. I didn't take a course, but I did buy an e-book of HESI A2 practice tests. I went over those and used YouTube and Khan Academy to brush up on things I had forgotten (particularly math!).

Hey Tasha! My science GPA was 3.0 and my HESI was 89.7. I ended up having 72 pts. I only studied the math portion of the ATI Teas book a few hours a day for 1 week because math and I have a hate-hate relationship :-/ If you can get in the 80 pt range you will more than likely get in. I was an alternate and by the grace of god I was admitted during orientation! Best of luck to you!! Apply EVERYWHERE and apply as early as you can!

what number were you as an alternate?

what number were you as an alternate?

There were about 5-6 other alternates chosen before me. I'm pretty sure all the alternates from Fall 2014 were able to get in though. We had roughly 9
