Hi all (my first new thread here!)
Does anyone know if you can be enrolled for the next semester or be in progress in a couple of the prerequisites at the same time you apply to either the traditional BSN or the Accelerated BSN at Michigan State University? Or do you need to be 100% complete with all your prerequisites before you put in the application to the nursing school?
If I could still be in progress on a couple prerequisites for the traditional BSN, I could in theory apply for the Oct 1, 2010 deadline. If I had to be 100% completed with all the prereqs, I'd have to wait until the Oct 1, 2011 application date.
Anyone know?
Thanks!:heartbeat -frnzy
Strange. My mail doesn't come till 3:00 so now I am thinking I won't get my letter either. I know the advisor told me they sent our letters on Friday. I am only 70 miles from MSU so I was thinking yesterday or today latest. But maybe because they did a mass mailing, it takes longer to process?? Not sure. But I don't think I can stand another day of waiting but I guess I have no choice. Maybe it depends on where you live. I live in a decent sized city so I was thinking 2 to 3 days we should have the letters. I guess if you don't count Friday, today or for sure by Wednesday.
I didn't get in, but I'm not that upset about it. I've heard really bad things about MSU's ABSN program. It was not my top choice. I found out this week that I did get into another ABSN program. We will have to move, but it was my #2 choice of the 5 programs I applied to. yay! Still waiting to actually hear from the #1 choice.
Good luck to the rest of you!
Hi MSU grad, I didn't get in either. I have a 3.7 nursing pre-req since going back to school so I was not sure what happened. I too and not upset since I feel things happen for a reason. MSU is 75 miles from my house and the other three schools I applied to are all local. So it's probably for the best. I honestly don't know who got in since another thread had several people not get in - one with a very high GPA. So I think they drew numbers from a hat. lol. I actually heard very good things about the program from people currently in it. But who knows?? My feeling is almost all the nursing schools are very good and it doesn't matter where you go as long as you pass the NCLEX. So it almost comes down to location, cost, etc. Good luck to you.
"talk about taking care of your own" - I couldn't say it any better! lol. I actually have some pretty strong connections with the nursing department at MSU, I'm MSU alumni, and I STILL didn't get in! lol. This is the third time I've applied. I honestly have no idea what they're looking for. I did not have the highest undergrad GPA, but I pretty much 4.0'd most of the prereqs, I have quite a bit of health care experience, and I thought my references were pretty great.
Like I said, It doesn't really bother me anymore, I just find it strange that MSU has rejected so many of it's own. I got into the accelerated program at UM-Flint. It's 16 months and I'm extremely excited about it. When I first met with an advisor at UM-Flint (actually at the LCC University Center b/c that is one of their satellite locations) she was so encouraging. I've never met with someone who doesn't even know me that was so encouraging about my education. I took 3 classes (8 credits) there last semester, and though the grading scale is harder (93% and above is a 4.0 instead of the normal 90 or 91%), I really enjoyed my classes and instructors, and I 4.0'd all of them.
A lot of the prereqs are the same as MSU's program, so if you're still looking I would definitely look into UM-Flint's accelerated program. I know it's 16 months, which is a little longer than MSU's program. BUT-the way I see it is either I'll have a little longer to learn such a huge amount of information OR they'll include even more information, which I think is great for student nurses!
Anywho, I'm very excited, and if anyone has any questions about UM-Flint's program, please feel free to contact me. Also, Lansing Community College (LCC) has a very well known nursing program. I believe their accelerated application is due by June 1st. It's 14 months long. Then, the University Center at LCC offers online (or hybrid if you choose) RN-BSN classes through UM-Flint. That would've been my back up option, and I think it's a good option.

Hi everyone, I applied to Michigan State as well for May 2010. It is my #1 choice of three schools I have applied with the others being Oakland and Wayne. I applied really early only to find out that they pushed the application deadline back to December. I'm excited to hear back but realistically I know its very difficult to get into this program. Of the three schools, my highest GPA is for Wayne and Oakland(above 3.5) but I am hoping MSU considers my hospital experience, goal statement and letters of recommendation. I am taking my final class (Stats) this semester. Anyhow, thanks to those who offered insight on the program. Good luck to anyone who is waiting on a decision.
