Msn degree and working full time

I want to get my msn in leadership so bad. I found the school I want to go to but it needs a total of 378 practicum hours over three semesters. I work full time in a family practice clinic Monday through Friday. I have no idea if I could pull off taking vacation for all those practicum hours needed and I don't even know if my job could accommodate me going less than full time 1.0 FTE :( anyone else out there do msn while full time?!

Not.done.yet. How did you like the program with wgu? I looked at the program info and seems interesting!

I was very pleased with it. It met my needs, had coursework that was/is pertinent to my desired advancement, was challenging and was completely self-paced. It cost less than any program I looked at, was flexible enough to be workable with real life and the course and student mentors I worked with during the program were passionate, responsive and helpful. The cost of books is rolled into the flat-fee tuition quote and there are no bulletin boards or group projects.

I worked full time in my DNP studies. Its tough but doable. I did 1300 clinical hours. How??? A variety of ways; Vacation time, working nights on no sleep, working every weekend. YUCK!!! It's done though & I made it. You can too!!!

Hello everyone.

I just completed my BSN at Chamberlain school of nursing and want to do my FNP. Anyone knows anything about the program? I have seen a lot of negative reviews. Please help.

I did my MN/NP while working FT, but that was before I had a husband and kids so my time, when not at work, was MY time to do with as I chose. There were other students in my MN program who worked FT, had small children, and pursued their MN studies at the same time, so it must be possible. I imagine it was really difficult, but it was definitely possible.

Would your current job let you work four 10 hr days instead of five 8 hr days and then you have one day off each week to complete clinical hours? Or is it possible to find a preceptor who can do weekend clinical hours with you?

When I worked in the hospital, one of our leadership staff was getting her MSN so she could become the nurse manager and she did her clinical hours in our hospital but on another floor. In the unit she did her clinical on, I think the clinical nurse specialists covered weekends too because she was always there and then she'd come up to have lunch with us on like a Sunday, one of the few days we were supposed to be free of her. It was awful. ;)

I work in a family practice clinic and 10 hour days aren't an option unfortunately and even working four 9 hour days may not be an option because once they "lose" that 1.0 FTE status (aka someone working every day M-F) they may not get it back.

I can look into preceptors at hospitals on the weekend, i wouldn't have a problem with that but i don't have any connections at this time.

I know a girl who went there for her FNP at that school and she seemed to like it! she just graduated a few months ago!

I'm in the Acute NP program for my MSN and I work full time Monday to Friday. I have to do 16 hours of clinicals every week and I either take PTO or I do them on the weekends and evenings. It's tough but it's doable.

Where on the weekends and evenings are you doing your clinical?
