Will I encounter any problem if I don't take the Philippine board exam or obtain a license in my country ? I'm a BSN graduate and I plan to have my credentials evaluated by CGFNS for the state of NY. I'm gathering all my documents already and plan to send it to CGFNS by the end of this month. I haven't taken the Philippine board exam yet. Will I encounter any problem with CGFNS if I don't take the local boards ? Will it delay my credential evaluation ? Will the New York State Education Department issue me an eligibility letter to take the NCLEX if I don't have license to practice in my country ? I had read a thread in this forum similar to my question. I want to make sure as not to waste money before having things started. Another thing is, in obtaining a Visa Screen Certificate, will I encounter a problem if I don't have local license ? How about if I don't take CGFNS exam and go directly in taking the NCLEX ? Sorry to bombard you guys with so many questions. I'm planning to start my application for US employment. I want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing so that I won't waste money and I won't encounter any delays in processing my documents. Please help me and share your experiences in applying for US employment. I will appreciate your help so much. Thanks a lot in advance. God bless.

hi! it's my first time here.

I passed my local boards last DEC'06.I'll be taking my CGFNS exam this July and plans to take NY Stateboard. I know that CGFNS is not a requirement in NY, however my aunt who works as a PT in a city hospital asked her RN friends that it will be an edge if i have CGFNS. Someone advised me that if i have a relative in the US, it will be better if i use their mailing address so that my application will be processed fast, is this true? COz I sent mine to her a couple of weeks ago. She's just waiting for my training certificate re. Child Abuse and i told her to send it right away together with my CVS.

Too bad i learned about this site too late. Actually I'm not sure if i answered my application correctly. Both the CVS and NY application needs a notarization. When I asked one of my professors, she told me that my NY application should only be notarized by US lawyer and just leave it blank since i'm here in the Phil. But when i went to the lawyer, he told me that they are allowed to do it but to look for a lawyer whose seal is renewed coz they might verify it with the US embassy. He notarized both of my application...:uhoh3:

am i doing the right thing? HOw long would it take for NY to reply? while waiting for it,What should i do after my CGFNS? Some RNs advised me taht since i'm planning to work in the US, i should not practice here bec our equipments are far behind. And told me that since one of my relatives will try to help to me to work in their hospital, i don't need a work experience here. They even told me that once accepted, the hospital will be the one to train me and will be compensated during that period. NOw i'm confused whether to take a training course in the hospitals here. please enlighten me...thanks

hello!

what i know from others' experience is that they waited 4 to 8 months for their CVS to be finished by CGFNS, and another 1 to 2 months for NYSED to process the eligibility. it's only the mailing time that is shortened when you use a US address but not necessarily the processing time. you need to be patient because CVS can be very slow (you can check the status online). once you get the approval from NYSED, you may register online with pearson.

the forms must be notarized and you must appear before the notary public. the date of your signature and of the notary's must be the same. there were others who used local registered notary in both CVS and NYSED forms. they had no problems with that.

in the meantime, perhaps you can start reviewing for the nclex. try to go to the nclex discussion forum here and search for suzanne's study guide/program. it has helped a lot of nurses who took the nclex. you don't have to attend class in a review center. you have plenty of time to prepare while waiting.

if you feel that you need to have some clinical training/exposure, there are manila hospitals that offer training program for a couple of months, but always have time everyday to read and study for the exam.
