Is anyone taking on-line courses at MGCCC this summer, or has anyone taken their on-line courses before? I just wanted to know what they were like, and if you had to go in for tests because I live 2 and 1/2 hours away plus I work a full time job right now.

I have taken online classes at MGCCC. The classes are not hard at all. Most of the teachers tell you what you need to study on there study guide that you get once a week. I only had to take one proctored test and it was a finals for one class. I was taking 4 classes online and only one of my teachers had the one proctored test.

Thanks for your help. :wink2: Do you know if you have to sign in to the Blackboard at a certain time on your first day of class. I'm asking because I work a full time job and this might cause some conflict if I have to log in at 8:00.

There is no certain time that you have to log in on the first day. there is no certain time that you have to log on on the online classes as long as you get on there three x per week.

Hey, I've taken four online courses so far from them. They haven't been hard at all. What's hard is trying not to put the whole darn thing off until the last few days of the semester. Some classes will let you do that. Some will require that you be online at a specific time, but most don't. I always look for the ones that don't require that. As for taking the tests. They do require that you take at least one proctored exam at the college per course. The instructor can require more, but they generally don't because, HELLO! It's called an online course for a reason! I just don't get why they have to be that way sometimes. Online courses are for those who can't make it to class or whatever. I know some people cheat, but sheesh, there are easier ways to ensure no cheating than making people trudge in to take a test. Anyway, good luck!

Thanks for the info Bumashes! Are you in Nursing School at MGCCC now? I was just wondering what it is like. I don't have many pre-reqs left to take cause I already have a BBA, so most of my courses are complete. Hopefully I will be applying in January because I can't go to school full time right now because of my son, and I haven't actually moved to Ocean Springs yet. It will be later on this summer. Did you take any science on-line courses?

Hey, I will be in nursing school this fall 2006. I live in Ocean Springs at the moment, but will hopefully be able to find a place in Gautier closer to the school sometime soon. And I have taken one science class online, but it wasn't one that was actually a required class. It was a filler, you know. Environmental Science or some such thing. I have taken Logic, Environmental Science, Intro to Corrections, and College Survival Skills. If you want an easy class to raise your GPA, then take College Survival Skills online. It was sleep-through-it easy. I've taken about four other online courses through USM, but none of those really apply here. They were of about the same difficulty, though. Just don't take a class that you're bad in online. Like, if you suck at math, don't do it online. That lack of instructor time really kills you.

As for the nursing courses, I have a couple of friends who are either taking them now, or have already graduated from JC. They all say the same thing. Prioritize, study, eat nutritiously, sleep well, and don't piss off an instructor. None of them said it was unbelievabley difficult, though. It just comes in waves. Easy chapter, couple of hard ones, a few medium ones, easy, hard. Just don't procrastinate.

Oh, and if you get the chance, work as a CNA or volunteer. I took the CNA class this summer to prepare me for nursing school and it was so much fun. On my clinicals, I got to interact with lots of nurses and ask them all kinds of questions about their jobs. Just a thought. I don't think the next class is until Aug 7th or so, though. It's $350.

Anyway, have fun, and PM me if you have any more questions.

Hey, I will be in nursing class this fall 2006 at JD. I live in Ocean Springs also.

Cool beans ems! Have you gotten your intro packet yet? I got mine a while back. I hate that we have to buy uniforms from one shop. And all of the additional expenses of physicals, drug testing, etc. Oh well. See ya there!

I recieved my packet sometimes in May, I think. I thought it was crazy that we had to buy our uniforms through the school also. All the extra money for other things will all be worth it in a couple of years. I am ready for classes to start. I sit out this summer and I am bored to death. So I have been reading up on nursing with anything I can get my hands a hold of. Well talk to you later on.

Oh, you know, check at the bookstore for old nursing books. I got a bag of four for 25 cents. Three of which are the old editions of the books we need for our level one nursing. Examples: Maternal Child Nursing, Clinical Drug Therapy, and Fundamentals of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, etc. So I'm getting to read a preview of this semester. And they'll be good reference material for when we've turned our books back in. They might still have some left, so you should call and ask. For a quarter per bag, you just can't beat it!

Thank you I will do that and see if they have any left.
