Please share what precautions your hospital requires when a pt. arrives that has had a prior MRSA infection, but no current infection. Does every pt. that has ever had a H/O MRSA go under Contact Precautions (gowns, gloves)? :wink2: Specific to L&D, PP, NSY.

In the hospital where I work if they come as as a emergency or elective surgical patient they go to a dedicated MRSA ward (which treats, surgical, orthopaedic, ob-gynae), if they have a past history of MRSA. If they have been able to obtain 3 clear swabs over the previous year from being on the MRSA cohort ward or from clinics, then they would be admitted to which ward was most suited to there needs.

Yep, this is our hospital. If someone had MRSA 20yrs ago, too bad, they don't even get swabbed, they are automatically a MRSA pt.

Our patients have to be clear of MRSA for a year as evidenced by three negative nasal swabs.
