Moving from VA to OKC this summer

Published

Hi there,

I am an L&D nurse moving from Richmond, VA to OKC this summer. I am looking for some input on jobs in this area, L&D or otherwise, pay, hospitals with good reputations. I currently work for the Bon Secour Catholic hospital system. It has been a great atmosphere. We do about 3500 deliveries a year. I would like a prn position where I can work 2 shifts a week but don't need benefits. Any thoughts or advice would be SO greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Mercy is a catholic hospital in a higher economic area in OKC (far north side), they have PRN positions as well as float/flex. Starting pay for a new grad RN in Oklahoma is about 19-20 an hour (as a staff RN) I believe PRN receive $30-$40 but don't quote me on that! If you're still looking for catholic there's St Anthony's which is downtown...but it's downtown. The Integris health systems are always on the list as one of the best places to work. There are lots of options, and then of course the specialty hospitals like the Women's Renaissance Hospitals which only do OB/GYN. I have no clue about pay or PRN staffing at those. Hope this gives you some useful info! Good luck!

Hi there,

What did you decide to do? I am currently in the process of moving to Edmond. I'm coming from Michigan and also love the hospital I'm working for. I'm thinking either Lakeside? or possibly Integris. I also do L&D and looking for PRN.

Thanks for your help, mommaof3. I had not checked this site in quite a while because I did not get any replies. I live very close to Mercy (in Edmond) so I have been monitoring Mercy's website. I will keep looking. I appreciate your input.

Hi Jenrninmi, I have not decided what to do yet. I have been watching the hospital websited but all that seems to be available right now is full-time nights. I am not interested in either one of those so I will keep looking. I have heard good things about Lakeside and Integris too. I think I may apply at all 4 hospitals and see what happens. I will let you know when I find something. Good luck!!

There is also OU Edmond. They opened a gorgeous L&D unit last year. I don't work L&D at the moment so I am of no help as far as where to work or anything like that. They do have one open position, but it's full time nights. Also, I am not sure what the volume was where you both worked previously, but at OU Edmond they delivered 311 babies their first year of business.

I just applied to OU Edmond, Lakeside and Integris tonight. I'm looking forward to learning about each unit and hoping to choose what will work best for my family and me.

Good luck to you both!
