Moving from US to NZ

hi.. im wondering.. im hoping that when i get to work there in new zealand and finally things get settled for me already, i could get my grandparents to live with me there as well. they both currently reside in orange county, california. ive read other threads here and i reckon NZ has the perfect atmosphere for my grandparents to settle in - stress-free life for them.

they are old people and they need to have constant check-ups.. would i be able to get them medical insurance?? could there be any other matters i need to consider first? i really want us to settle there in the near future.

by the way, my lola is a greencard holder already.

anyone pls give me info on this. thnx! :zzzzz

Things to be considered, will NZ allow you to petition your grandparents, if health insurance is required how much is it going to cost. Lola would probably benefit from getting citizenship to the US before deciding to leave the US in case it doesn't work out.

Before you do a thing, you need to find out what the requirements would be for your grandparents to go to NZ. It is not going to be an automatic thing, especially since you will be there as a landed immigrant and not as a passport holder from there. Things are very different in terms of immigration to there. Never assume that it is going to be an instant thing. It is going to be far from that.

It is usually going to be years before you could petition for them, same as when they came to the US in most cases. As a landed immigrant, it would be similar to if you were on the green card here and had tried to petition them for the US; just not going to happen in any realistic time.

Having a green card means nothing to NZ; it is only for the US. And as Anna mentioned, if they leave the US, and decide that they want to return here later on, they may not be able to do so; it will depend on how long that they are out of the country, etc.
