Welcome! St. Louis is a fabulous city, and an added plus if you want to be an urban dweller is that by working at Jefferson Barracks, you will be going against the traffic if you are working daytime hours. Even if you had to join the evening rush on I-55, it's not terrible at all. Some areas you may want to check out for urban living are Tower Grove South, Central West End, Washington Ave. loft district downtown, and Soulard. These places have a lot to offer within walking/biking distance. Best of luck to you in your new journey! And if you're not a Cards fan, you will become one very quickly! =)
nlsRN2012, Congratulations on your first RN job! So what are you doing at Jeff. Barracks?
If you don't want to live in the city, Fenton is very close with an easy commute down 141...a nice drive (much better than I270 or 64/40). If you want suburbs...Ballwin has been often named the best value and feels very safe (this is where I live). We have whatever you need and you hit 141 straight to Jeff. Barracks...Fenton is closer, but I like Ballwin/Manchester. The poster above mentioned nice areas if you want to live in the city. If I was alone, I might choose the suburbs (maybe)...we are still a very short drive to the city down I-44...like 10 miles, but it feels like a world away. If you have any specific questions, let me know.
Good luck!

Hello, I will be moving to STL in a couple of months to start my first RN job. I will be working at the VA located outside of STL city limits in Jefferson Barracks Park. I live out of state and do not have the ability to visit in person to check out the area prior to my move. I like urban living and don't mind a moderate commute. I've been looking at apartments online in various neighborhoods. I welcome any suggestions or insight on different neighborhoods within the city limits. I'm looking forward to this new adventure in my life!
