Moving to San Bernardino area LVN

U.S.A. California

Hey all!!

I just found this site and have been surfing and read a lot of good info. My hubby is military and we will be moving to San Bernardino area in April. I am a LVN with around 5 yrs of experience on Med/surg. I have other experience too but this is where i spent most of my time. What are my job prospects? My mother in law said that the only place I can get a job is a long term care facility. I have been searching high and low for a job and there are a few openings here and there. Anyone live in this area with any advice for me?? The pay scale is so broad too. Anyone willing to share?? I am so nervous, I dont want to be flipping burgers for a living. I have submitted my resume at a few hospitals, but have been told to just wait until I get there. I hate this, because I am so scared that I wont find anything.

Any input is greatly appreciated!!!!!

i live in san bernardino, but am a student at the cal state. i don't know what your prospects are as an LVN, but if you want I can put together some hospitals in the area for you.

good luck on your move. hopefully you will be in the north end of san bernardino ;)

Hey!! Thanks for your reply. I would absolutely love it if you did that!!! I appreciate the offer. I have been searching the yellow pages but there are so many different areas and places I dont know what is close. I usually have map quest open and the yellow pages. I sometimes want to pull my hair out!

Again thank you for your offer, that was a very nice gesture. Your in school now? For your RN I take it? I am too, and hope to get into an actual program when I get to Cali. Right now just getting all the pre-reqs out of the way. Good luck to you!

There are few jobs available to LVNs in acute hospitals. many eliminated the positions and only use RNs. Now, with that said there are many hospitals in the area which you can at least inquire about job prospects. The list would include, St Bernardines M.C., Community Hospital of San Bernardino, Loma Linda University, Redlands Community, VA hospital in Loma Linda. Others that are close but not in SB are Moreno Valley Hospital, Riverside Community, Arrowhead M.C.(county) and Kaiser in Fontana. There are many LTC places like Shea Conv, Waterman Conv, Del Rosa and others. Community Hospital in SB has a long term Neuro unit which uses LVNs and a Pediatric LT unit, one of the few in the state. You can see there are many places where you can start to look. Some may have web sites where you can go and apply, like St B's and CHSB are part of the Catholic Healthcare West system and it does have a web site. Your best bet would to do a Google for this area and look up hospitals for phone numbers and start to call. Good luck!

My cousins have resided in the city of San Bernardino since the middle 1980s. Many pockets of the city are drug-infested, gang-infested, and filled with criminal activity. My advice is to carefully select where you and your family will live.

it looks like shodobe gave you a good list, i can add Robert Ballard Rehabilitation (I know they have LVNs) but other than that you got a good list aside from the tons of LTC facilities.

yup, i am in a BSN program out here. fun but rather time consuming and difficult. i just want to echo what was said about the san bernardino area. you really do need to pick where you are going to live carefully. some areas are complete crap and others are nice. i would suggest living in the immediate area surrounding the cal state.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I dont plan on living in San Bernardino, but commuting from a smaller town on the outskirts. I have actually submitted my resume and applied for a few jobs and have several prospects. Thanks again for all the information!!!

Robert Ballard Rehab is part of Community Hospital of San Berdoo. I lived in SB for 20 years before I pulled up stakes and moved to NorCal. I still work at CHSB and commute there from NorCal where I live on 5 acres in the Sierras! I wouldn't give it up for love or money. I have worked at the same place for almost 30 years and like the people I work with. San Berdoo can be a scary place for newcomers and there isn't really any place that would be considered a "safe" place to live. All of the area in the Inland Empire is very gang infested and has a high crime rate. Now, don't let this scare you off because every place has it's good points. I only moved away because it was jusr getting too congested for me and I needed some elbow room. Most of the hospitals are nice and have a decent rep so you still have a good list to choose from. Places to live is another story. Good luck!
