Yes,
I'm an airline pilot and will be moving to RDU soon. My wife has 1-2 years of ICU nursing with a BSN (I'm asking/researching because I'm a 'gung-ho' researcher prior to life changing events).
1- Do people like it and is it affordable?
2- For planning purposes, do you know ~$ per hour she could expect at the area hospitals? Know the best ones to work at? Any other RDU area advice?
Ooops sorry that was more than 2 questions:stone .
Thank you all for any information.

I live in Granville County about 30 minutes from the Raleigh/Durham area. I love it. Lot's of cultural/art type things available to do..but I'm out of the 'big city' shuffle. Overall prices are compareable to that of national adverages for gas/food. Housing is costly. Traffic is an issue in the area, lots of road construction. If you have kids there are problems with over crowdin inthe Wake area. (you willwant to go to the local news/tv wed sites read about that. There is somthing everyday)
I would guess that with 2 yrs ICU your wife could expect around 20$-22$/hr. More is certified.( I have not worked in the public sector for 5yrs)
Good Luck!

New grads start at just under $20/hr, so a nurse w/ experience would make more. Check out Wake Med, Rex Hospital, UNC Hospitals, Duke and some of the community hospitals like Johnston Memorial, Wayne Memorial and Duke Raleigh.
Depending on where you're coming from, the Triangle can be very affordable, especially if you live in one of the growing "bedroom" communities. Apex, Holly Springs, Cary and Morrisville are close to RDU. Also the new 540 "outer beltline" has made areas like Knightdale, Zebulon Wendell and Clayton a short commute to RDU.
We live in Clayton, and my commute to Wake Med in Raleigh is about 20 minutes. My husband is a Realtor. If you would like more information, just PM or e-mail me.
Good luck in your move!

I'm a student in Duke's ABSN program. We live in northern Durham and love it.
I was just told by the VA that they're paying new grads just over $48K a year, so I can imagine what an RN with experience would make. So there's another possibility; the VA hospital is practically on the Duke University Hospital campus, right across the street, actually. Just another suggestion.

I also am researching the area....So the VA pays more than Duke? I now make 30 an hour plus shift, weekend dif in Ga. Will be moving in a year to the RTP area. May just do a travel job for a couple of years. It looks like the pay is lower and housing much more expensive than where I am coming from.
