Hi all,
So I've been going back and fourth for the last year about transitioning from psych to tele. I graduated in 2011 and did psych for about three years. Now an opportunity has come up where I can move to a tele unit. Does anyone have any advice to make my move a little easier?
Thanks in advance!

How long is your orientation and what does it entail?
Hi,
I'm not quite sure yet. I believe it's 8-12 weeks of training with a preceptor. I've been told you orient on days for a few weeks then they move you to whichever shift they need filled.

I just made it to 1yr in telemetry after working as a new grad in psych for 2yrs.. I looked over old nursing school cardiac notes and read up on cardiac medications as well as reviewed EKG rhythms before starting since I was so nervous! but I found that my hospital provided a few classes during orientation and I didn't need to do all of that. they made me take a critical care course and basic dysrhythmia class and everything else I just learned on the floor with my preceptor.
if you fully haven't decided yet I really think you should take the opportunity ! it was so difficult for me to get out of psych I felt like I had "psych cooties" ! if you don't like telemetry you can always go back no problem :) .. the transition overall wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but many thanks go to a wonderful and patient preceptor. the big change is just patients are in bed instead of walking around and IV medications .. also just writing notes differently
I feel the same and I'm looking to try out something new. Thank you so much for your advice! I appreciate it so much :)
no problem good luck!!
