Hello All,
I live in PA, and I'm a nursing student in my last semester, graduating in May, and I am moving to AZ, the Phoenix area, after I graduate.
I spoke with a recruiter who told me to get back in touch with her in March, but my classmates are applying for jobs locally now. I work as a Nurse Aide in Med-Surg currently, and even my own hospital is not hiring new grads at the moment, so I don't even know if I would have a job with them, if I chose not to move. (I haven't applied, because I'm not planning on staying).
Ok, before I start to ramble, should I skip the recruiter, and just start applying at various facilities? I've come to the conclusion that I may have to give up certain luxuries like signing bonuses, and relocation allowances etc, and I'm ok with that. At this point, I think I would just like to know I can get a job.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
My dad is a patient at VA and when they found out I was in school they sent a recruiter to talk to him about referring me there so if you are willing I would certainly try the VA in Phoenix. If you are related to a VET mention is right away! There are a few new hospitals on the outskirts of the city/valley but many have Fellows programs that get "first dibs" on any new graduate positions. I know a few people who have graduated in the last year with a BSN without a fellowship and still have not found a job, most require 1 year experience. If you can get at least 1 year experience in PA snatch it up then relocate!!!!
There are also the "small town" facilities in Casa Grande and Prescott and such that you may want to investigate as well. Good luck!!!
Maybe its the new grad and being from a different state. Did you apply online? maybe its best you go directly to the location. I dont like how applying for a job is these days, its all robotic. hehe... Also try, abrazo, magellan healthcare i believe....i cant list the names.. im also new to AZ. try out the job sites like Jobing.com. thats the site Az uses alot. also try Indeed.com. best wishes.
at least you have your license. im still working on mine. any tips??
maybe try the clinics or something smaller. I know most people dont want to work at Abrazo health but its something. try that out. I know some friends who work with Banner. Im trying to get the scoop for you but we will see how far i can get for you. so keep in touch just in case we get a lead.
