moving to Orlando, need info please!!!

Hi,

My husband is taking a job in Orlando. I have 8 yrs RN exp. and 1 yr LPN exp. Most of my exp. is in LDRP. I am just wondering about which hospitals are best (pay, staffing ratios, schedule flexibility??) I have heard the Arnold/Winnie Palmer is nice, is this true???

What are some nice areas to live in??? Is is unreasonable to pay less than 300,000 for a 4 br house?? What are some areas where the traffic would not be too bad to commute to the downtown area for my husband?? What about daycares for a 1.5 year old?? Any help would be appreciated!!

TIA, Rachel;)

I don't live in Florida but a coworker just moved there last year and is now back home. She said that the cost of housing insurance has skyrocketed the cost of housing there . She said that where your house insurance is tied in with your house payment that people are seeing their house payment go up by $700 a month and these prices are also being passed on to renters if you try to rent a place. Her family could not afford to sell their home here and move there ..a nice place to visit but too costly to live i guess. Good luck though maybe you will find things different .

Hi Nurse Rae! My name is Renee and i have lived in Orlando all my 23 years of living! i won't lie to you, Orlando is getting very expensive just about anywhere you go. you can get some good deals on houses though in the range you quoted. if your husband is working downtown, you may want to check out College Park which is very nice and about 15 mins from the city center. there's also winter park, the dr. phillips area ( a little more $$$), also on the east side of orlando (waterford/alafaya). there's a lot of choices. as far as hospitals, i'm not a nurse yet, but Winnie Palmer is GORGEOUS and brand new! ORMC is nice and general. Celebration is very nice as well, but further away. as far as daycare, you may want to check out Kinder Care and there are so many others. Hope this helps!!

Hi, we just moved to Orlando a few months ago and the price of houses here are more then Ohio where I came from. I researched schools and found where I live in the 32828 zip code is best. I live in Eastwood and love it. It is the east side of Orlando. The houses range from $250 and up for 3 bedrooms. You can now find a 4 bedroom under $300,000 because of the slow market right now. People are slashing prices on the houses. There is a childcare Called Kids R Kids I think, right in the entrance of the subdivision. Not sure how it is though, sorry, mine are in school. I work at ORMC, and its great, and I heard they pay more then Florida hospital. Just what I heard from the nurses coming to ORMC from Florida Hospital. Winnie is beautiful and I think you would love working there. Its only 15 minutes from where I live.

Hi nurserea, I have lived and still live in the Orlando metro area for 8 years now and to answer your ??? some really nice areas to live with about a 30 min commute to downtown Orlando and that's including traffic, would be places like Casselberry, Altamonte Springs, Lake Brantley, Winter Park. Yes you can still find really nice 4br houses in your price range; they are always building new houses here, so you shouldn't have a problem. Most of these places are reasonable priced as they are not right smack in the middle of downtown and they are Seminole county, so that means a really good school system. The tax in Seminole county is 7% and Orange county is 6.5%, so weigh the difference. I don't know about daycare (don't have any kids). Hope that helps!!

I'm sure you could find a house with that price range. My parents-in-law has a nice house with 3 bedrooms for less than 200,000 with a gated neighborhood. With you and your husband working, I'm sure you can live comfortably here. After done with school, my husband and I will be moving to AL. Hopefully we can get a cheaper house there by the water.
