i have bs in management from here in the us. a us citizen but soon to have dual citizenship. i have been thinking about doing the 2nd course in manila for about 2 yrs now but out of fear, have not done so. i dont really want to be apart from my husband but have a future for my kids that i have to think of. i am now at the point where nothing has happened to my career since i have decided in oct of 2007 to move to the pi for school. husband and i are now 80/20 abt moving to the phil w my 2 kids become a nurse. i was told that university of makati was a good school but i dont know how long it will take me to finish.

i just want to hear it from people who are in the same situtation as i am and have moved and are in school right now. what are your thoughts? how is it and what schools do you think i should consider?

helo jillgonzales27, i didnt came from a prestigious or expensive or very known school in the philippines but i had passed my local licensed at first take, my sister plan to go back in philippines to study nursing to, if u got all the minor subjects, all u need are the nursing subjects, study now, dnt wait to long, like what happened to me, i graduated my BSN april of 2007 and passed the june2007 board and just take the nclex now, now im all stress out studying again.

hi. the plan is to move back to Manila by April but I was really hoping I can leave in October. I need to sell my furniture and get my husband situated before we all leave. I dont have the minor subjects done though. all I have is a Bachelors Degree in Business Management.

so now my 2 questions are....1 can i start school in October... 2. do i still have to take any pre requisites or i can start right away w/ the current degree i have?

enrollment of second semester starts at october, classes starts after all saints day but it depends upon the school, some of ur credentials will be carried but u will need to take minor subjects for sure,. hope that will help u take care have fun in PI, il be going home by june next year too hehe

Are you referring to University of Makati (College of Nursing)? If so, here is their number (632) 881-1571. Ask them if it's possible that you will send your first course transcript for evaluations. If they will allow you to send it via email, then it's better because it will be faster. They will then tell you what subjects you need to take and the duration of your studies. Since you obtain your education in the US, you will take some (majority) of the minor subjects such as Filipino, Rizal, etc. Ask them what will be needed to be requested in your former school. Usually, second courses who obtain their first degree in the philippines are required to secure a transcript from their former school as well as transfer of credentials. It's harder to request a transcript or transfer of credentials if you already here in the Philippines.

You may want to check out which schools are affiliated with St Luke's Medical, Asian Hospital or Lourdes since they are hospitals at US standards and would be more apt to prepare you for returning to the USA to practice.

Sto Tomas University and UP both have exceptional programs and at a fraction of the cost of similar programs in the USA.

UP is especially good at preparing educators as well so if your plan is to return to the USA and eventually become a Nurse Educator that would be an excellent program for you. Others have done the same with much success.
