Published

hi everyone

i am moving from Austin to Dallas, Carrollton area. i have been a LVN for 7 yrs, worked in LTAC for 5yrs. pay is really good and i graduated from RN prog. about 2 mth ago and salary got even better.

can anyone please let me know the rn pay rate in that area of Dallas....

i heard pay is not that good.. but i am asking about LTAC...

thanks

Most of the LTAC hospitals in the DFW area will pay an experienced RN a base rate of about $28 hourly. With differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends, it might add up to even more money.

The LTAC hospitals include Kindred, Lifecare, Regency, Global, Vibra, Ethicus, Healthsouth, and a few others that I cannot seem to think of at this time.

I believe that the cost of living (especially for real estate -- renting or buying) is much, much lower in Dallas than Austin. That will be a big factor in your equation.

It is common knowledge that the PRN rate that a facility offers tends to be more than the regular rate that is paid to full-time staff. The $28 hourly rate that I quoted you is a regular rate for a full-time employee who is not PRN. In other words, the PRN rate would be higher.

In addition, Austin has one of the highest costs-of-living in Texas, so a nurse would need more money to live there in the first place.

thank you

i will give a call to all these places but if you can think of any other please let me know i dont know how much is the living cost difference is because the houses in carrollton are more expensive....

Here's an update...

I attended a job interview yesterday morning in Fort Worth at one of the facilities that I had mentioned. The DON offered me a $36 hourly PRN rate. I was more interested in a full time position, but she stated that I could be considered for full time when a staffing need arose. Anyway, I accepted the job offer. The background check and reference check are pending.

Great Commuter...did you accept that job...I'm new to this but I see you on alot of posts and you are very wise and helpfult to a person like me that's new to the area. I have a friend who moved to Austin around the same time I moved to Dallas...we both worked a Trauma ICU in Las Vegas and she was quoted lower hourly rate in Austin than I was in Dallas...and we both have been quoted a lower hourly rate than we were making in Vegas...but there's something to say about humble life with better educational systems for the kids...I don't mid!!
