Moving to Florida post-graduation

Published

After staying 2 weeks on the beach visiting my parents, I decided that after graduation (dec 2016) I wanna move my family back to Florida (I previously lived there for about 7 years, my husband has never lived outside of Louisiana). I'm thinking central/space coast area. My parents are in Melbourne beach. My son will be almost 4 so schools will also be a factor.

At graduation I will have my ADN, plus a BA chemistry and a Masters of public health plus 10 years medical oncology research experience (including clinical trial management) I am looking at RN-BSN or RN-MSN programs.

Which hospitals should I look into? What's the going rate for new grads? Should I get licensed here first (Louisiana) or just apply in Florida?

Lots of questions.... TIA for responses :)

Bogey, I do see a lot of jobs in Florida that offer 5,000 sign on bonus is that the same as relocation? And how many years do you need to commit with they to get that money for relocation?

For FHT, it's 2 yrs if you accept the bonus. On the offer letter they call it relocation bonus. But it's the same thing.

if you leave after 1 yr, you pay back 2500, and so on. So you don't really lock yourself in by taking it.

As for the person who has never heard of sign on/relocation, it is very common. I'm fortunate enough to not be tied down to MI so I have been applying all over the country. You should see Arizona. Get a little experience under your belt some of those places will throw 20000 at you.

Hospitals NEED nurses more than anyone. Don't sell yourself short.

Thank you bogey. Do they pay you the money at the beginning ? Or how does it work?

5 grand added to first check

Makes sense thanks bogey í ½í¸€

Gonna be a beautiful first check

Just remember that "bonus" is considered just that. It's usually taxed at a crazy rate of about 35-40%.

I'm anticipating that. I hope the no state income tax helps a bit.

I was just hired by Florida hospital Tampa. Pay is higher than 22.

i get 24.78, but about 29 after differentials. I'm a 24 yo new grad.

ASN? BSN? Does it matter?

ASN? BSN? Does it matter?

I have an ADN with 7 years of med passing experience at nursing homes/assisted livings.

Ive heard BSN get about 50 cents more per hour but I don't know for sure
