Moving to DFW area... so many choices! HELP!!!

Without having the prereqs, don't think you could get an ADN or a BSN in the 3 year time frame. Just the science preqs alone would shave a year off your time frame; and, that is if you go to classes during summer and mid-sessions. You would kill yourself trying to get the prereqs in such a short time frame.

Think your idea of going for your LVN may be the answer. The DFW area, unlike some other areas of the country, does hire a good share of LVNs.

There are numerous RN programs in and around the DFW area, but the competition is fierce for the purposes of admission. It is normal to have 600 to 1,000 people applying for less than 100 available nursing school slots at the same time. Therefore, you will be unlikely to get admitted without at least a 3.8 grade point average in your prerequisite classes, and all 'A' grades in your science classes.

In other words, you can earn your RN, but probably not during the 3 year time frame that you are allotting for your situation. Good luck to you!

It is possible to do your ADN in 3 years, including prereqs. I just did it, I started with a developmental math class in May 05 ( I have been out of school for over 20 years ), and just graduated in May 08. I still have to pass my boards, though, which are scheduled for the end of June. I went to El Centro College, downtown Dallas. I did have a 4.0 in my prereqs and was lucky to get accept on my first try.

I started in November of 2004, but didn't do a bunch of classes at a time; I did the fast track, back-to-back though....

I also graduated from El Centro (North Lake campus) in May '08, and recently took the NCLEX.

So, I think it's possible to do it in 3 yrs if you apply yourself.

I had a 4.0 on the prereqs, but also had a 4.0 on all 17 credits of the support courses. However, the requirements are different now.

They do the HESI entrance exam, plus require a skills course as part of the pre-reqs, so the accepted GPA is no longer 4.0 and 3.77...

:yeah: thank you all for replying. your answers have been helpful. i think i will look into el centro more. i am determined, and i would like to think i am pretty intelligent, even tho i am from georgia lol, so i don't think keeping a 4.0 will be difficult. i am sure as heck willing to put forth the effort! i guess it all depends on when we actually get there, since we don't know the exact date we are moving. either way, thanks again!

just had a thought. look into some distance education college classes to get some of the prereqs out of the way. some major universities offer them without having to enroll.

That's what I was thinking too...if you start doing online classes in GA now, you may get a class or two out of the way.

(Just make sure you take classes that are completely online, just in case you have to move before the date of the finals!) :)
