Hi
I have just got my LPN liecense in miami FL and am planning to move to Dallas TX. My wife is RN and we are doing good here but now we want to buy a house and have kids. But the houses and cost of living in miami is increasing everyday. So we are planning to move to dallas bcos the houses are cheaper and we also have some relatives in dallas but i am not sure if dallas is the right place. so can someone tell me :
1) How good is Dallas for LPN and RN? what are the wages?
2) How good is Dallas to settle down?
3) what is the procedure to transfer our florida liecences to Texas Liecence?
4) Besides Dallas can someone suggest me another city(place where it doesnt snow a lot)where the houses are cheaper and have good prospects for lpn and RN's?
would appreciate ur kind feedback. Thanks

I just moved from the Dallas area a few months back. Grew up there and worked as an RN in a suburb of Dallas. The pay of course depends on how long you've been a nurse; close to $30.00/hr base pay for 5 years experience. Job market is good...shouldn't have a problem finding a position. Cost of living is expensive. As for LPN's? Not sure. Didn't work with any LPN's now that I think about it. As for obtaining a Texas License...go to the Texas Board of Nursing website. Dallas itself is not a good school district. Look in the suburbs for better school districts. The best are Lewisville, Texas and Denton, Texas. It's about an hour drive northwest of Dallas. Also you can look in Plano Texas; just north of Dallas but the cost of living is even more expensive in Plano. Other than Dallas, there is always Houston. Cost of living is cheaper than the Dallas area...but stay away from Houston Independent School District and from the southern side of houston....best place is northwest Houston; lower crime and better schools. With that said....the pay is lower in Houston...I took an almost $5.00/hr pay cut. Ouch. Hope this helps.

The southern suburbs of Dallas are nice areas also. I've lived in the Duncanville and Cedar Hill area for about 12 years. Both cities have good schools I think the Cedar Hill district earned national reconition 4 or 5 years ago. Also in the past 5 years Cedar Hill has really started to develop so their are lots of new neighborhoods and builders. Hope this information helps in your decision making. oh yeah by the way welcome to allnurses.:)

I am an LVN who lives in Fort Worth, which is in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. I live in a brand new house that was affordable for me ($104,000) and located in a highly desired school district (North Crowley Independent School District). I am located in very close proximity to good schools, shopping, and quick freeway access.
