Moving from CT --> CA HELP

Published

Hello Everyone!

I'm currently a last semester nursing student, attending an accelerated nursing program in CT and will be graduating in December. My boyfriend and I have been wanting to move to Southern California for a while now but we've been waiting for myself to finish nursing school. Our one year wait is finally coming to an end and I have been starting to search for jobs near the LA area. My overall plan was to graduate, get my CA license by examination, move to Cali and get a job by the beginning of the year (I know, big dreamer here), little did I know that California processing times are so lengthy!! I am now stuck in between choosing to WAIT for my permission to test from Cali and wait it out till I get my license from them .. even though most jobs I was looking to apply to began by March and according to the processing times on their website I may not have my license by then. OR should I just get my license in CT since it doesn't take that long and THEN do license by endorsement? I am SO confused on what to do here and would just appreciate it if you have been in the same situation, and what you did? How long has it taken you to get your license in California, either by examination or by endorsement? Do you have any tips to ensure that your application gets processed faster? Anything at this point would help, I just hate to let opportunities pass by because I didnt make the right choice, or was too scared to wait.

Thank you so much !!

CEIN student?

Anyway ... when I was in school, quite a few of my classmates were moving out to Cali. They just waited to test out there; they didn't get their CT endorsement.

Your school may have more information on how to proceed.

California takes just as long by endorsement. LA is also a super-saturated market when it comes to new graduate nurses.

I went to school in Texas and wanted to move to Southern California after graduation. After a little research, I decided to work for two years in my home state, first.

Yes lol! and lets say I haven't had the best of luck with information from the school. Thanks for the reply though!

I very much agree with this plan ^^^. Those classmates I mentioned took almost 6-12 months to get a job in Cali, and many not in their chosen field. It was rough for them.

The rest of us got jobs starting that January following graduation.

It would make you more marketable. Just a thought.

I'm not shocked, lol (class of 2016!).

The postcards event (coming up in October? November?) - that's when they went over it. Or when they're supposed to, at least (you'll receive all the NCLEX paperwork, etc).

I'm on the same boat! I'll be graduating in May! I really really wanna move to California but i guess I'll just wait for one year ... :(
