Moving to california

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm an LVN in Texas and I'm moving to California soon. I was wondering how long it takes to get my license transferred over there? I just mailed the application yesterday and it should be there on Monday. I'm Really excited! I hope to find a job relatively quickly. What is it like in the Los Angeles area for LVNs? How hard or easy is it to get a job?

Thank you!

I wouldn't even consider moving here without a job lined up. California, especially the major metropolitan areas, has the worst market in the entire US for nurses across the board, and with the push for BSNs, both LVNs and ADNs are having a very challenging time finding work here, but LVNs are especially set back, because few, if any, hospitals hire them anymore. You may be able to find work in home health or a SNF, but even then, make sure something is lined up before you make any moves.

Look into the local school districts such ad Long Beach, Alhambra, Compton, and Torrance. They have been hiring recently for health assistants and aides for their special needs students. Most positions only require a CNA, a few want LVNs but like the above posters stated, getting jobs out here are tough so I know people who have their LVN and are doing the same job as me. A few if my coworkers have bachelors in another field but I make more than them because I have my CNA!

I graduate next year and I am already prepared to move in order to land a decent RN job. One things for sure, I won't miss LA traffic!

Good luck!
