Hi all
Well never thought I would be in this forum but I am going to be now due to my husbands job.
My husband is taking up a research job in Brisbane and me and my son will be coming over with him. I am an RN with 7 years experience, I have a significant amount of that time working in a tertiary neonatal unit level 3 with surgical and medical babies. I have also completed my masters neonates.
Do you think it will be difficult for me to find a job with my experience. I have looked at the registration for nurses and have all the form to complete. Would it be best to look for a job before we leave or wait until we are over there.
Hope you can help, we were on track to go to USA but due to this fantastic offer out path is going to change.

Your not going to get a permanent job without registration. If you have a good lenght of time before you move you could start it in the uk youll have easier access to the paperwork you will need.
You could always apply for bank at the hospitals you want to work for.
Thanks for your reply. I am aware that I need registration and this will be sought before I go. I just wanted to know whether there are jobs for experienced neonatal nurses because if jobs are not available me and my son will look at staying here.
Thanks
I am not famili with Brisbane at all but there would be neonatal units there best bet is to put some feelers out via email to nursing workforce at some hospitals. Wikipedia might be able to give you a list of hospitals in Brisbane then start emailing would be the best advice however no one js going to look at you without registration.
May look at staying in the uk to risky and not willing to give up my career. Thanks for your reply
Hi
I am getting replies on this thread saying that I will not get looked at without registration. Having already been through the long drawn out process to register in America I am expecting it to be the same for Australia. I have never said that I am going to look for jobs without registration all I wanted to know was whether I could get employment in Australia in particular Brisbane as an experienced neonatal nurses. But having read other threads and how people have replied saying not to come to Australia. I will take the answer as a no. I will now look at staying in the UK with my son.
I never said once in this thread that I would try to obtain employment without registration and I did say this would be sought before we left. My husband is not going until 2016 so I have plenty of time to get that sorted but now think it will be safer to stay in the UK.

With post grad and experience, you are sure to get work. Once Registered in Australia, get in contact with the major hospital, The Mater and the Royal that would have the acuity that you are most likely have at home and I am sure the work will be there, even if it would be as casual, the hospitals would be most welcoming.
The only problem I can see, if you wish to stay in a tertiary situation you are limited where you will want to work. Australia is a massive big country- as big as the USA, with a much less population, so you may live in Brisbane but still have to travel 20-30 k just to get to a tertiary hospital that has has a neonate nursery.
I don't mind travelling to work. I have been making a 150mile round trip to get to work here so not to worried about travelling to work. But thanks for your reply. I will get my registration and then maybe approach some hopsitals as suggested. Do I need to take the English language test to register with the board or is this just for inmigration.
No, UK applicants do not need to have English test, you will need documentation that you have completed at least 5 years secondary/tertiary education in English, not sure, think you need a much lower score in an English test for immigration......Australian nurses however have to do it for the UK You should have no troubles finding work.
Thanks for your reply. I was ready to stay here and let my husband go and work over there. I will get all the paperwork and start the process now so I have all my registration in place before we go. Then I believe I need to go to the board for show identification documentation before I am provided with a license if I correct. Please correct me if I am wrong.
This is going to be a big change for me because we were going to America and now everything changed.
Thank you

Wishing you luck, I'm in the process of looking for work in Aus from the UK too. Proving very confusing!
