Moving to Boston

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

I'm moving to Boston with two years of cardiac experience under my belt. Where do you suggest I work when I want to work in a cardiac or ICU area? I would like feel empowered and make good money. Doesn't everyone? Anyway, have you heard anything about Faulkner Hospital??? Have you heard anything about cardiac or ICU units at some of these hospitals? In general, what are the physician's like in the Boston area? I know there can be much variability; but, maybe there is a different culture in health care out there than in Iowa.

Trying posting on the excellent international forum on all nurses.

Several things to consider.

A. There is retrogression, meaning many qualified international nurses have been waiting years to come to the USA.

B. Boston is a tough market, local grads are not finding employment. The last time I remember international recruitment hasn't happened since the 1990s.

Things may change by the time you graduate and best of luck.

I'm so sorry to say this but you couldn't have picked a worse time to want to come to the Boston area. The market is completely saturated. There are multiple hiring freezes and experienced RNs are not able to find employment. Children's Hospital Boston has an excellent cardiac surgical program, though. They fixed my ASD, among other things, when I was a baby. :) Best of luck to you!

Hi to all,

and thanks for your replies. I sure hope by time i graduate things may have changed, i really hope to be able to take my son over, i somehow feel it would be tragic not to get there for is sake, after having attempted so many times in the past with an E2 visa and all,but it wasn't meant to be just yet, meanwhile i will keep hopeful.

Love carla

A great 2010 to us all,

My apologies. My medical-oriented brain thought ASD was atrial septal defect, but when I reread, you clearly meant autism spectrum d/o. :)

That's absolutely fine...i wish i did not knew what it meant either..

Take care and thanks once more

Happy holidays

carla
