Hey everyone,
I am going to be moving back to Sydney early next year.I hope someone can advice me on the best time to be moving.I mean I know the new grads will be starting their roatations in feb/march or so.I am thinking that might not be a good time to be job hunting.Any comments?
And what is the job market like.I have been going to hospital's websites but they only have 4-6 vacancies.I emailed one NUM and she told me to contact her when I have moved to see if they have any opening as most of the time they don't advertise.
Please reply.

NSW just got a pay rise which makes it streets ahead of QLD - expect an influx of northerners looking for better money;. I would apply now and get a start date - remember they will prefer someone trained to someone untrained anyway.

Hi nita,
Can't help you with Sydney hospitals but I am interested in your experiences in the States. Good/bad/ indifferent? Hoping to head there myself, I would appreciate your take on the US experience.
As you may know from other posts, I am also interested to know if your original under grad degree fulfilled all subject expectations for the CGFNS and NCLEX exams. Did your program include maternity, paediatrics and mental health theory and clinical (as required currently).
Sorry to chase you around, but you are the only RN I know on the planet that is an Aussie nurse that did not do any additional subjects for the US exams.
Thanks heaps for your advice
And welcome back to OZ!:balloons:

in advance ...... welcome home mate!
try; royal north shore. they appeared to be seeking staff at the beginning of this year when i was in sydney. i think their turnover is sometimes large due to the locality, (reasonably close to the city), so there's plenty of transitional workers passing through.
there's an agency across the road from rns, on pacific h'way, but sorry, i cannot remember their name. i popped in for a visit and chat while i was there and they impressed me. they also supply staff for rns.
don't be put off by the gnp's coming into the fray. all facilities need experienced staff. the only competition you might have is with those finishing their gnp and taking up permanent positions.
perhaps agency might be the way to go for starters, get a feel for what's what, then go for it!
good luck!
I am practicing in Colorado and loving it..and if I could make my family and friends move out here..i would stay but I miss em and seeing em every 1-2 years isnt enough so ..moving back.
I didnt work in aust as a nurse just my clincals but the ward I work on now is great.I had to work as a Nurses Assistant for almost 2 years and my nursing director was very helpful and supportive while I was applying to get licenced in US.
My nursing program did include maternity, paediatrics and mental health theory and clinicals and I will see if my transcripts says the exact hours that I did.
