Moving to Australia 2011

Published

Let me apologise in advance if this is already on a "thread"! I have been searching this website for the past 3 hours and can't find any threads on what I'm looking for:eek:. Is there anyone out there........preferably in the UK who has applied for nursing post in Australia in particularly Melbourne preferably "Northwestern Mental Health" or any other hospital in Victoria?? I have already applied for my registration and have accepted the fact it's gonna take a while........ On a better note, I already have a job offer and references have been received, I've even been sent visa application forms temporary business class visa 457 (not filled in yet as want to wait for registeration)

I would like to speak to any UK Nurse preparing for the move, who have already been or working at NorthWestern Hospital.

All suggestions/support/advice/ideas even chit-chat welcome!

Thanx!:nurse:

Hey

Seen your post, I've just been offered a job at NWMH Melbourne as a mental health nurse. Not got a lot of information about what area I will be working in but I will be going to the Youth Service.

I've got my eligibility for registration with AHPRA but I was wondering if you are out there how long did it take for you to become fully registered when you visit the AHPRA office with all the documents they require?

Do you know if NWMH offer temporary accommodation for initial arrival?

Thanks

Erin :)

You could try asking NWMH but I doubt that they have accom. ask them which site that you will be working at. Orygen has the main inpt/outpt service but I do know there are other sites.

If you know what site you are working at I may be able to suggest a hostel that is close to your workplace or on a tram or train line.

Best of luck

Thank you K+MgSO4 for that info, I know my references have until the 16th December to reply. Hopefully after that, NWMH will be happy with the refs and I can get to know more info about what area I'm going to exactly.

Do you know anyone recently that is an overseas nurse that has came here going to AHPRA office with more documentation when they've got an eligibility letter for registration? If so, how long after that visit if they were happy with the docs they were on the register to practice as a registered nurse?

That would be amazing once I know where I would be going to if you could direct me to which hostels would be near the hospital :)

Cheers
