Hello! I'm a nursing student and I was wondering if you guys could recommend movies for psychiatric patients to see. One of the institutions that we have our duty in has asked us to do a film viewing. And apparently the movies I have at home are almost all about action, fantasy and cartoons which is a big no no no in psychia. So.. Uh. Can you guys suggest some movies?

I don't know if youare looking for movies to distract the patients or to help them see similar situations, but here's a link.

I worked with teenagers in long-term psych units for several years. We didn't do rated R movies, but otherwise anything went. Obviously if there were certain themes that were inappropriate we wouldn't show them, but one of the kids' favorite movies was "What About Bob"!
A safe bet is probably a good rated PG or PG-13 comedy, though. :)

Yeah a PG-13 Comedy sounds good. Problem now is that sometimes the residents (patients) of the institution would complain if they have already seen the movie.. :-( Have to be careful in choosing D:

Movies with challenges and/or family problems addressed, and healthy coping skills presented? Hoosiers, Apollo 13, Breaking Away, Bend It Like Beckham, October Sky?
