Mount St. Mary's College Los Angeles AccBSN 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. California

This is a discussion on Mount St. Mary's College Los Angeles - Accelerated BSN applicants for Summer 2013. I was not able to find any discussion forums on this, so I thought I would start one!

I have recently applied to MSM's accelerated BSN program for Summer 2013...and I wanted to see if there is anyone else out there as eager as I am to hear back! :)

Hey aleong29! thanks for getting back to me. I couldn't reply to your pm because i do not have 15 post :( I think I read somewhere in this thread that you live in Temple City, which is the city I live in! Just wondering if you could recommend the best hospital to volunteer at around this area. I was looking at Monterey Park Hospital (because it is close to ELAC) and also Methodist Hospital in Arcadia. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Oh wow you live in TC as well?! I find it so rare to find anyone who lives in this city! I currently volunteer in the emergency room at Arcadia Methodist. There are many other volunteer opportunities, but I think that you will get the most out of the ER. The doctors/nurses/techs will allow you to watch them do procedures so long as they and the patient agree to it (which is all the time). I can't speak for Monterey Park as I have never been there, but I have only good thoughts for Arcadia Methodist! Let me know if I can help you out with anything!

Hi guys, Anita (aleong29) & Lolly (superfryk) have been accepted to other programs & wont be attending MSMC anymore. We're sad to see them leave, but very happy for them to go pursue their dreams where they see fit. I will take the admin role for our FB page & I would like all of us to communicate there & get to know one another more. Just search my name in FB & send me PM so I can add you. Thanks!

Hi all! I have a question. What are some of your stats like for those of you that were accepted? (congratulations!!!) And are you all from the California area? I live in CT and was thinking of appling for 2014. Would they still accept me (or do they favor their own residents) and would it be crazy expensive do you think? Thanks!!

3.0 undergrad GPA, near all A's in pre-reqs, 2 years clinical volunteer experience, health care field licensed/job

I don't know if they favor people from CA, sorry

Yes, it's crazy expensive. Summer semester alone is $19,000. But the payoff is a good chance at finding a job because it has prob the best nursing student rep in LA

Hope that helped! Good luck

I have a 3.5 in undergrad and about a 3.7 in prereqs. I'm from the CA area, but I'm sure they will accept all applicants regardless of your state of residence. I was accepted to MSMC for the Summer 2013 term, but chose not to attend. I'm going to a public school instead because the tuition is a lot cheaper. Even though my family and I have enough to pay for the near 60k tuition, it's a bit too steep for me. There are so many other costs to factor in, and I realized it's just way too much for me, and I chose to pursue my ABSN at another school. With that being said, the nursing program at MSMC has an amazing reputation and many of the nurses I met also spoke highly of the program. Good luck with your applications!

Hey everyone! I have been reading all of your comments. I just want to say congrats to everyone that got in for the summer 2013 term. I applied for the March 15th deadline which would be the Fall 2013 term. I did not hear anything from the school! I am anxiously waiting to hear back from them! I was just wondering if there is anyone else in my applicant pool that may have heard anything? Or from the students that got accepted, does anyone know what happens next? When did you hear for your interview, and when did you get your formal acceptance? I am on pins and needles! I really hope I get in! My only concern is that I did not take the bioethics course! :( If I get in, I am planning on taking it right away online! I just hope that does not hinder my chances of getting in! I would love to hear back from you guys when you get a free chance! :) Thanks everyone!

Congratulations to everyone that got in for the summer 2013 cohort. I applied for the fall 2013 cohort and still waiting to hear from them. Can one of you please share with us the likely questions we are expecting at the interview? Thanks everyone!!

FarahA: I believe someone created a thread for MSMC Fall 2013 ABSN applicants, you might want to search for it to see if anyone has any updates. To answer your other questions, the next step would be to receive your invitation for an interview. I got my email for an interview on Monday, February 11. I interviewed on February 14 and found out I was accepted on February 21st by checking my status in the portal. I received my acceptance letter in the mail on February 23. The Bioethics course does not affect your chances of getting in. It is best to take the class online after you know you have been accepted, if not, you will be taking it during the school year at MSMC. Most of the people took the course through Taylor University Online. The course is PHIL 410: Bioethics.

x-smiler: When we received the email for an interview, it told us that the interview would last 15 minutes. Come the day of the interview, and they were 45 minutes late. I believe my interview lasted 30 minutes. It will be with just you and the interviewer. The person I had was very nice and friendly and I felt very comfortable with her. She explained what the program was like and made sure I knew what I was getting myself into. She also answered any and all the answers I had for her very thoroughly. Overall, it was a great experience, nothing I would stress about. I don't remember too much about the questions she asked me, but she asked me only 2-3 questions. However, you should expect to be asked things like: Why do you want to be a nurse? What do you do when things don't always go as planned or when there are a lot of stressors?

aleong29:Thanks for the info. Hopefully I will be invited for an interview. Good luck to you.

Thank you aleong29! That was really helpful! I have been anticipating hearing something this month, but I think most probably they will let us know in June! I hope I get an interview too! X-Smiler: Maybe we will get in together! Fingers crossed for us all! :)

Yes FarahA, maybe!!:)
