Applying to MSMC's 2011 absn program? Yeah, me too. Just wanted to hearing from others in the same boat.

Congrats sugarlips on passing the NCLEX!!! That is so exciting :)

And NatBoehm let's keep in touch! I am excited yet REALLY nervous. Are you applying anywhere else around that time?

Hi, guys!

I am also going to apply in March for Fall 2012 for ABSN. I turned in the application to CSUN last week. Has anyone of you applied there?

The cost of the program at MSMC is the only downer for me - and I hope that I will be able to get private loans to cover it. I do not have much volunteering experience

Congratulations, Sugarlips! And I want to thank you for posting your opinions of the program - I have always been your diligent reader:)

Hello Every one!!

Im considering applying to mount saint mary Feb 2012 But based on the previous comments. Im not sure if my GPA is good enough : ( Ive always had a heart to help others that cannot do for themselves, and Im very compasionate when it comes to people. My GPA over all is 3.0 and my science GPA is 2.75 Im missing one science class so Im sure I can bring my GPA up. I dont want to discourage my self. But I just want to know honestly do I have a chance? Maybe I should consider ADN for now oppose to BSN. If I cant be a nurse I dont know what I will do... Any suggestions from anyone?? Thank You.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

@Teelovely, you may want to check the school's site, as there are only May and August cohorts (unless they have changed it). You should definitely try to up your pre-req GPA and maybe take a few other classes like Medical terminology and other pre-nursing classes at community colleges to help increase your GPA, as well. I would strongly go against an ADN if you can help it, as it will just extend your time in school.

@ teelovely: Even with your 2.75 GPA you should still apply. You have nothing to lose but the $20 application fee. Also, I completely agree with Sugarlips about ADN. Its not worth the extra time it takes for an ADN b/c it's even more difficult to find a job after you graduate. Go directly for the BSN. Apply in Feb for the Aug cohort. Take your missing Science class and apply again for the May cohort. I had to apply 2x even with a 4.0 in my science classes. But other classmates got in on their first try with lower GPAs than me. There really is no method. Just apply and write a kick ass essay.

@Sugarlips thank you so much for the information. I'm not to sure what "cohorts" is. I have to research it. AND is definitely secondary. I've been in school so long and have taken so many classes with the hope to be transfer to the BSN program. Best case scenario I get in, worst case scenario I can settle for the AND program. @Bnice74 thank you!!! Your right I have no problem paying the 20.00 if I lose it hey it was worth ounce but I will stay positive.. I did read you have to write a essay. I'm actually a good writter very expressive.. I'm going forward. At the end of the day I'm not losing anything.. I will stay optimistic for BSN and ADN is my fall back plan. Thanks so much!!!!

Hi, guys!

I am battling sort of a theoretical dilemma - which school would you choose: Mt. St. Mary's ABSN or CSUN ABSN, considering you got accepted to both? Seems like it is easier to find a job after Mount b/c of its reputation, or it does not really matter for potential employers? CSUN is cheaper, and seems like it is a solid program.

I would really appreciate your input!

Thank you:)

wow you hand delivered? haha. I submitted my online application a week ago, and the office already has my transcripts since I applied for their associates degree program. I got accepted, but denied since I really want to get into their accelerated BSN program. Good luck! The waiting begins....

Congratulations... what was your GPA upon applying for the associate's?

I don't remember if the rejection letter said why. If it did mention a reason, it's probably my gpa. I slacked off in my early college years and it has really taken it's toll. However I got my act together and the last two and a half years of school Ive earned a 3.8 gpa I think, and that includes many difficult classes like Biochem, ochem, micro, stats, etc. It's unfortunate that MSM only see's ones overall gpa and not the person, their scholastic improvements, and life accomplishments. I have a long list of college honors, patient work experience and volunteering, am an EMT, etc etc. It's apparent MSM only cares about numbers, it's really unfortunate.

Congrats on your acceptance into !!! I, too, slacked off in my early years. Really bad. My GPA was 2.4. Ouch - I'm thinking of applying to WGU... do you think I'll get accepted?

Hi, I've been accepted to the May 2012 Cohort and finally decided to commit to it. I've also been accepted USD MEPN- MSN in Clinical Nursing, Samuel Merritts ELMSN-FNP, Charles Drew ELMSN Clinical Nursing and have been on the fence for months now. After realizing how much each program is going to cost, how long it's going to take, and the starting salary of a new FNP, Mount Saint Mary's makes the most sense for what I'll be getting and I'm planning on working for a few years before going back for a MSN to specialize. I'm excited to start the program and get working as a new grad RN. Does anyone know if there's a FB Group made for this cohort yet? If not, I will make one =) I found the Mount Saint Mary's group that's graduating this year and it seems like a really good resource to communicate throughout the program and hangout!

I will be applying for the August 2013 Cohort. I am currently working on my pre-reqs. Can anyone tell me what the monthly payment will be incase I don't qualify for any private loans? I did my FAFSA last month and I know based on all my info that I will qualify to about $15,000 fed loan. I am really worried about making the rest of the monthly payments for the school. I don't have good credit so I'm not sure which bank will offer me a private loan. Anyone with same issues that was able to get private loans? What bank? Thanks.
