Hi! Im a recent new grad and I have an interview with MSH in the NICU for a fellowship. Has anyone heard back? What was the interview like? What questions did they ask? any advice? also does anyone have any info on which NICU is better the main hospital or Mount Sinai West. thanks

Oh OK, is the recruiter typically quick to respond because I've tried calling her but it just goes to voicemail and I haven't heard back from her via email either after following up?

she can take a few days via email. I find that calling her is the best option, she usually answers phone calls! Try first thing in the morning or between 9-12. Who have you been in contact with?

Thank you so much, I've mainly been in contact with her, she called me at one point last month to set up an interview so I know I def have the right phone number. So I don't know why it's just been going to voicemail and I can't leave a message either because the mailbox is full. So now I'm wondering whether she might have a another number that you all have been using instead to contact her because besides her email, I don't see any other contact info listed for her in the fellowship description. So where were you able to find her number to reach out to her about the open positions they had?

I went to a Mount Sinai open house last month, and while I was there I asked for the contact info for the women and children's health recruiter. Her name is ----------------------- and her number is (646) 877-9983 ! Is that who you've been contacting?

Oh OK, thank you so much ?and that actually is the number I've been calling ?so I'll just keep trying. It'd be great if all of us in this chat make it through to the orientation.

I was wondering if I could get some feedback on how those that got a position are liking it so far? Would you say the unit culture is good? Do you feel supported? I might move from California so I am looking for a NICU that is a good learning environment with safe patient ratios and supportive co workers.

Oooo sorry! LOL. If you could keep me updated I would really appreciate it!

Also for NY programs, do they require you to have a NY license at the time of application? How competitive is it over there?

Most, if not all, applications I believe will ask if you have NY RN license! Are you a new grad? I found it very competitive to get into ICUs or even peds med surg as a new grad, I got rejected from basically all of those applications. The only reason I was able to get this NICU position is because it's a new grad fellowship so all the new hires are new grads!! Regular med surg positions are fairly easy to get ahold of as a new grad, and I found a lot of hospitals in NYC do open houses where you can actually even get hired on the spot. I started applying to jobs in July/august and got this position in October,  but I was strictly applying to women and children's health jobs. If I had applied to adult med surg jobs in the beginning I'm sure I would've landed something within a few weeks. On the other hand, if you already have a year or two of experience as an RN, I'm sure it will be a lot easier for you. Hope this helps!

I graduate with my BSN in December! I applied to NYU Langone Residency program because it didn't mention anything about needing a license at the time of application. I have not heard back ? I feel like because I am from out of state they might prioritize NY applicants. I hope Mount Sinai has another fellowship cohort in the NICU for the Spring because then I could apply. From my research I have not been able to find much information on NYC residency programs... It seems less straightforward than california LOL

I don't know much about residency/fellowship programs here either LOL! I didn't even expect to apply to any. I'd recommend making a LinkedIn account and really perfecting your profile, then following all the major hospitals in NYC as well as hundreds of recruiters. People will reach out to you! Also I would honestly wait until you take your NCLEX or at least graduate from school before you start seriously applying. I started applying in July before my NCLEX in august and would get immediately denied from jobs, I'm assuming bc I had to tick the "No" box for the questions like "do you CURRENTLY hold a NYS license…” since I wasn't registered yet. After my NCLEX is when things started to pick up for me.

Why are you planning on moving from Cali? I've always heard they treat and pay their nurses really well there.
