Hello!
I applied for the Accelerated BSN at Mount Saint Mary's University in L.A. for Fall 2015. I hadn't seen a thread created yet so thought to make one! Wondering if anybody out there applied and waiting as well?
I am looking at applying to MSMU Accelerated Program for Next Summer 2016. I currently live in Indiana but my husband is being relocated in January so I am trying to explore my school options out there. I was just accepted into an accelerated program here...but obviosuly have to declinebut I know standards are different in LA. Can anyone tell me about there experience with the applications process? GPA? How did you credit transfer? Any medical experience you have? Actually ANY info is helpful...I have read like EVERY thread on this website about MSMU lol
Thanks so much!
I would recommend going to the MSMU absn web page as far as pre-reqs go. Transfer is easy. Just send the counsellors course descriptions of prerequisite courses you are unsure of for course equivalences. As far as gpa i think they weight more on your science stuff. My undergrad cum.gpa was 2.97 (I messed around sophomore year but made it to deans list jr.& senior year). I just busted my ass to get my gpa up with the necessary pre reqs & managed to get it up to a cum.gpa of 3.4.
Application process is similar to other schools. Probably simpler as its mostly electronic. You need two recommendations & one of them has to be academic. Math test after you pass the application round. Then interviews.
As far as medical experience, the only experience I've had in medicine was in the administrative section (outpatient surgery center reception, office assistant, assistant to medical staffing director, the C.E.O., & the C.O.O.). No real hands on stuff. Mostly medical paperwork.
If you're smart/able enough to get into an ABSN program where you are I'm sure you'd make a good candidate anywhere, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Hope this helps!
