Mount Saint Mary's ABSN FALL 2011

Published

Just reaching out to other fellow nursing students who applied for this coming Fall 2011 ABSN program at Mount Saint Mary's (Los Angeles)...I completed my application a few weeks ago.

Yes I am, if I can find a bank to give me one... if you catch my drift. :) lol

I just got accepted for the May cohort. The deadline for the application was November 1st and I got my notification for an interview in the beginning of January. Based on this, I'm guessing you should start hearing back around May, however the school was closed for the holidays so you might hear even sooner since you don't lose those 1-2 weeks. They did a lot of the rejections very early on, like a month after the deadline. The longer you don't hear from them the better. :)

Congrats:yeah:! how was the interview? both psych to nurse and i are crossing our fingers. did you apply to several other ABSN programs? i applied to three schools due to keeping myself within california. i wish i could venture outside of so cal, but i'd rather try and keep some of my monies tucked away and keep cost down. if you have any recent insight or guidance through MSM pre/post app process would be greatly appreciated.

FisherKing - I have Lori Hoolihan for nutrition. Congrats on being done with all your pre-reqs, that's great!

Thank you guys for your vote of confidence that having one IP course will not be a huge problem for admissions. I've applied to 7 post bacc nursing programs and also some ADN programs, so hopfully I will be going somewhere in the fall.

Congrats to you xluescluesx for being accepted all ready. I've seen you on some other threads. Are you definitely going to MSMC or are you waiting to hear from other schools before you make your decision?

right on, i took Lisa Hesse and she was absolutely wonderful. it'll be a waiting game for the next few months. sounds like you've applied to several programs, so it'll even the playing field...i only applied to 3 schools---little worried about not applying to additional programs, so my faith is with God.

I already gave my deposit but I'm still waiting to hear back from other schools. MSMC got back to me the fastest. This school is in my top 2 choices. I love that it's such a short program and it has a good reputation. Unfortunately I have to keep my options open until my financial aid is all figured out. It's hard to get federal loans and grants for a second BA and I'm a little worried about it since it's so expensive!!!

congrat on your recent invite to MSM...how soon did they notify you from the end of deadline for May 2011 cohort?

Fisherking33,

The interview was actually really brief, like 10 minutes. She asked 1) Why do you choose this school 2) What school is your first choice from all the programs you applied to 3) Something about working during the program because they really really don't want you to so insist that you won't 4) name an ethical dilemma you had in your past and how you dealt with it. That one caught me off guard! I think that's about it from what I remember. She also asked if I had any questions for her and I asked her a few things.

Yes I applied to a total of 4 schools, all in the LA area. I don't want to move either! To answer your question about the process, the application was due in November and I got an interview mid January and was accepted maybe 2 weeks later. I think you guys will know by May, they're pretty quick.

What other schools did you apply to? Good luck to you, I hope you guys get in.

Wow 10 minute interview? i guess the last question that threw you off would have also threw me off, too. thanks for the heads. i'll definetly go over those questions you listed...the turnaround time was quick. are you enjoying the program so far? i applied to concordia and western. i have my heart set on MSM because of the history of the program, NCLEX pass rate, and being situated in a metropolis. i was thinking of applying out of state than realized the cost and benefits of leaving so cal versus out of state tuition and expensive housing. I completed georgetown, NYU, and Columbia nursing school apps, but prayed about it and decided to stick around so cal for better and greater endeavors.

Thank you so much for sharing...hope to hear more about your current studies at MSM---im pretty sure all of us applying are very anxious to hear the good news a few months from you.

I haven't started yet, it doesn't begin until May. But I'll let you know when I do. :D

3 is probably plenty. I think I over did it but I'm just so nervous about getting in... Where else did you apply?

I am excited I found this thread! I also applied to the Fall 2011 program! The deadline for applications has not even passed and I am already getting nervous...

i totally understand how you feel...welcome aboard. we'll get through the next few months waiting to confirm our interview dates followed by acceptance letters in due time. im crossing my fingers for all of us...wish they had unlimited seating, but that would only take the fun away. where abouts did you complete your pre-reqs

Thank you! and yes...haha..that would truly would take the fun away! I finished most of my pre-reqs at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, but I also went to CSUN for my undergraduate...so a few I knocked out then. I am glad that we have eachother through this very fun time of waiting! Where did you complete your undergraduate? Do you know what they base admissions off of...meaning is admission heavily weighted on gpa? I do have some pre-reqs that I am completing this semester...so I hope that will not negatively impact my application.
