Specializes in Antepartm and Mother-Baby.

Today I got my dream job as an L&D nurse. I started as a mother-baby as a new grad 18 months. I'm familiar with the postpartum aspect and my unit took care of low risk antepartums that needed to be hospitalized for one reason or another. But this will be a whole new ballgame and I'm super excited.

I don't start until the end of October, so I have a bit of a wait.

They told me that I would have a month in the classroom, then 3 months orientation on days and then at least another month of orientation on nights.

I can't believe I actually got my dream job!!

Specializes in L&D, mother/baby.

Congrats! There's a lot to learn, but I loved L&D when I worked it. :)

Specializes in Postpartum, Med Surg, Home Health.

Congratulations! That's awesome :)

Specializes in Behavioral Health.

Awesome! They are giving you a month in the classroom? That, too, is awesome. Welcome to the jungle. You will now have the honor and privledge of being there for your patients during some amazingly happy moments as well as the most profoundly sad moments. Take it all in and enjoy the ride.

Congrats, this is my goal. I'm a new grad just starting in mother baby and I hope to transfer to L&D next year. Did you switch hospitals or did you just make a transfer within the hospital?

Congratulations:yes: my dream job is labor and delivery also. I used to watch Birth Day on TLC as a child and embarrass my mom in the library checking out baby books with her card. I hope you enjoy it:)

Specializes in Women's Health.

Congrats, I'm super excited for you. I just landed my dream job in L&D as a new grad RN. Many hospitals in my area will not give a new grad a chance. I was an LPN for 8 years, though.

Specializes in Perinatal.

Congrats!! I was the opposite; started in L&D as a new grad and worked there for 19 months before now working Mother/Baby.
