Most Accredited LPN-RN Bridge programs in Canada??

World Canada

Published

I have been accepted into an LPN program in Calgary. After I work as an LPN for a bit, I would like to go back to school for my RN. Since I would like to work as an RN in the US one day and also get my graduates degree to become an NP in the US, my question is what LPN-RN bridge programs would be the best choice for someone like me who wants to work in the US and Study in the US one day?

Just a few questions you indicated you had no clinical hours for paediatric and  obstetrics, did you have any issues with Michigan and Maine? I’m currently completing  a bridging program to RN with non of the above mentioned  clinical and I’m kind of concerned I might have issues getting a license in the States after I pass my NCLEX.
Thanks for sharing and hopefully you can share more how easy it was for you getting your license

Hi. Michigan has simple requirements such as they required a BSN transcript with conferred date or any certification I.e. CGFNS certification. I paid CGFNS to send my Visa screen certificate (more expensive LOL ?).

If you go to a State Board of Nursing, you can see the requirements. That's why you'll probably read that nurses go to those States because it has simple process.

Maine did ask my school a letter to confirm theory & clinical hours but eventually decided to release my license after a while of back and forth. I paid CGFNS eDAS to send paperworks as well. My 3 schools put N/A for clinical hours on the CGFNS form. Although, I had the theory hours. But the letter from my PN program mentioned those subjects were covered on my health assessment lab.

Some States have reciprocity with Canada so endorsement of license is straightforward. Some requires CGFNS CES but I didn't need that.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I will look into board of nursing for the states I have in mind. What type of unit do you currently work on and wha will be your advice for preceptorship? I am thinking med-surg so I gain more hands on experience since I currently work in Psych unit and haven't done much IV's lately. I was told I will need 1year of experience as an RN here in Canada before I could start applying for jobs in the States.

Thanks again

I was RPN first in Ontario, had 2.5yrs retirement home and 1.5yrs med-surg experience before finishing my BScN. Really, my first RN work is when moving to the US at med-surg/gen surg.

Hospital experience in med-surg is recommended so it's easier to transition in the US. I needed to adjust at first but eventually got used to. I  got 2weeks general hospital orientation and at least 8weeks of floor orientation.

It really does not matter. They all give you the ability to eventually write the NCLEX.
