Hey all, I have an interview coming up with Public Health in Toronto & I was wondering if anyone can give me any pointers/tips on the types of questions they will ask? I have been a bedside nurse my entire career so far (9 years), so this is entirely new territory to me!

Hi all, I am a registered nurse in Ontario, Canada, and have been for less than a year. Prior to that, I spent 9 years working in acute care as a registered practical nurse (surgical, oncology, medical). Since obtaining my BScN I have left the bedside and now work as a school of nursing instructor. I have no interest in returning to the bedside. I would like to obtain a master's degree. I am torn between whether or not I should aim for a master's in nursing or a masters in education? As far as career options, I am open to areas like public health, teaching, and other non-bedside roles. What are your thoughts on MScN vs. MEd?

It depends on where you live/work. The pay rates can vary significantly from clinics to hospitals, etc. I'm an RN now, but I was an RPN until earlier this year and I worked at a hospital in the Niagara area. My take-home pay was $1800 & change bi-weekly at $30.26/hour. That is being classified as part-time, but picking up full-time hours so I got 14% in lieu of benefits. If I was full-time, I'd take home approximately $1500/bi-weekly. From what I've seen, Toronto hospitals paid less at $26-$28/hour for whatever reason. Didn't make much sense to me as the cost of living is much higher.

It really does not matter. They all give you the ability to eventually write the NCLEX.
