I'm around 7 weeks pregnant with my fourth child. My youngest is 5, so I have been out of the swing of things for awhile, but the one thing I am recognizing is the nausea. I've been so sick the last week or so I have really been slacking on the job at work and while I would love nothing more than to not have to be at that job I don't want to be fired for being a slacker. I don't want to tell everyone because I don't want the attention. So I am wondering if there is any advice on ways to alleviate morning sickness (well, for me it's 24 hr a day sickness).
I will think I'm hungry then I think of eating and feel like gagging. Sometimes I will even get as far as getting the food and the smell of it makes me reel. Then there are days when I'm sick all day long and have a hard time eating crackers. Right now I feel like there is a big lump of vomit the size of a basketball siting in my stomach. It makes life unenjoyable, to say the least.
And, of course, the husband and kids are hungry so I have to cook for them and it's about all I can do to cook their food without vomiting.
I don't remember when I can expect this to subside, but I hope it is soon.
Please advise.

Wow that sounds tough! I was doing doula training when I was pg with my second daughter and vomited along with the laboring mother!! She didn't notice, thank goodness.
I know it's not traditional to announce pregnancies until 12 weeks, but you might want to share the info with your supervisor and just let them know how you are feeling since it's affecting the way you feel. Hope the m/s passes soon. I found it comforting to suck on mints and lemon drops to help with the nausea, although as you know, nothing really helps completely. When you get home from work, have your older kids help with the housework so you can rest.

Sounds like you have some serious yuckiness going on. I'm so sorry. I wasn't that sick with either of my kids, a little more so with my second. I ate crackers in bed several minutes before rising and kept lemon drops in my mouth all day long. Caffeine-free Coke helped, too. One friend who was sick like you finally had to get something from her doc. Hang on (I know it's difficult) ... there's a beautiful baby inside! :) Could your husband help a little with the cooking or go out to eat, at least until you're feeling better?
I just thought of getting some lemon drops and...felt woozy...

crystallized ginger worked for me, and not just during the first trimester.
i just shake my head at the preggo's at work who are spending money on Zofran before even trying some homeopathics.

While we at AllNurses cannot offer medical advice, we can offer support and encouragement. I so feel your pain. My morning sickness lasted the entire 9 months with my first pregnancy and for 5-6 months with the second. I ended up eating small carbohydrate-type meals around the clock to "get ahead" of the nausea/vomiting. This really seemed to help. Please consult with your OBGYN as to what course of action is right for you. We wish you the best and a happy, healthy pregnancy outcome.
