8 months L & D nurse, offered a call center advice job ...Need advice!

I've been working as a Labor and Delivery nurse for about 8 months now. It's a love/hate relationship for me. There's times when I love what I do, and there's time where I absolutely hate everything about the job. However, I feel as though I should at least give it a year since I am a new RN. I work night shift, so overall it's been very hectic and stressful. It feels like I've been riding an emotional roller coaster for the past couple of months that never ends. Juggling 2 kids, work, transitioning back and forth from a night to day shift schedule has been brutal. (kids drs appts, therapy appts, soccer games etc) I started to look else where and was offered an advice call RN job. This advice call center job is no weekends, and hours are the in the afternoon to evening. Has anyone else been in this position?? Anyone work call center and regret leaving inpatient? Anyone leave inpatient and take a advice call center position and love it? Thanks for reading my post!

The call center nursing environment isn't for everyone. Ask yourself, Are you ok with being on the phone constantly 8 hours a day for 5 days out of the week? In addition, the call center environment is very heavily production based. Which means you will not only be scored for the quality of advice you give but also by the volume of calls you answer.

Thanks for your advice! The position offered is 6 hrs a day, and one day off during the week. I would be reducing my hours quite a bit. I honestly feel like I'm leaning towards staying inpatient .... í ¾í´” but when I have a crappy shift I change my mind í ½í¸’

Leaving your first job after less than a year is going to bite you in the butt in the future. If you take the call center job and don't like it, you'll be a new grad with less than a year's experience inpatient looking for your third new job. Stay where you are for at least a year, preferably two. Then look around to see what your options are.
