Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).
Ugh. I am so unbelievably frustrated. I'm not having any luck finding someone to watch my kids while in school. I've tried day cares but they close too early or won't do the days I need. I've called the college's (all 3 locations) child care centers and no one has space now. I tried to plead my case that being in the nursing program, I just got my schedule but no such luck. I must have contacted 40 people inquiring about nannying. I'm either not getting responses or people are turning me down for various reasons. What am I going to do if I can't find someone????? I am really beginning to stress out.
Nikki, that really sucks. Have you and my neighbor talked yet? You still have a month, so don't stress out (yet). She should be home around 5 or 6 today. Getting her resume updated to send to you may delay things, so my suggestion would be call her back and try to get an interview set. I'm trying to think of anyone else I can recommend...no names come to mind at the moment.
Hey guys! We just got down here about 30 minutes ago. I wanted to let you know how my appt. went. So even though I had an appt, I had to wait for others who (according to the sign-in sheet) did not have an appt. It wasn't too bad, I got seen around 12:45 and my appt. was for 12:30. I gave her my Lab Form and showed her the Pre-Check paper but she didn't really want to see much more than my picture ID. After I peed in the cup, I gave it to her and said "So you guys are going to do a drug and alcohol screen, correct?" and she said that Lab Corp does not do alcohol screens. You can imagine the look on my face...TOTAL AND UTTER CONFUSION!!! I don't understand why Professor Matthews would give us a sheet with 2 Lab Corp locations on it if we couldn't get both screens done there. The lady said I'd have to go to Quest for that. I was so upset. I told her to go ahead and do the drug screen and that I would contact the nursing school about the alcohol screen.
OMG Andrea. Thank you for sharing. I would have been so ticked off had I gone down there and found out I couldn't get both done. Let us know what Prof. M says. I think an alcohol screen is dumb. I mean, lots of people have a glass of wine or beer every night. No harm done. Can they tell by the test if you have hepcratic necrosis from years of drinking excessively or something?
Kristian - I haven't heard back from Rina since I last spoke to you. BUt I did have some luck today. I found an in home day care down the road a bit who has room for LIam 2x/wk and it isn't too much money. Problem is she closes at 5 but the lady I used last year is available to pick him up when she gets off work and can then come get Lucas from school and watch them until one of us gets home. She is also available Thursday in case I need a day to study and open on Fridays in case Lucas' school has a day off, which they often do for professional's day and what not. I am paying her more than I did last semester because I am requiring more of her around the house to help me out a bit. But overall, it is still cheaper than going with my first choice nanny who lives in BFE. I am awaiting a call back from the owner of the day care to see what she would charge me for Liam to go just a 1-2 hours each on T/W until the sitter can pick him up. I'm hoping she won't charge me anything else since it is such a short time period and the other 2 days I am being charged for a full day even though he isn't really there a full day. I also asked for references and wanted to tour the facility. I've driven past it every day when I'd take Lucas to preK. It is has a large backyard with playground equipment and she always has their crafts and such hanging up in the window. It sounds like a good fit. Only problem is naps...it is rather early in the day and it is on a mat with a blanket. Liam sleeps in a crib and I don't see him sitting still to take a nap if he isn't confined. So maybe I can get him to take a short nap before hand and he can just go to bed earlier at night. Not sure yet but hopefully this will work out.
Got my Health Assessments book today. I think that is everything for textbooks. I have yet to pay for the ATI thing. I thought my watch would be here today but no.
Does anyone know how things work with clinicals when the weather is horrible? If schools are closed and we are due at the hospital are we still required to go? I know you are expected to be there if you are a nurse but just as students, are we off the hook?
I can't believe how confusing and messy this whole process is to get started for fall.
Nikki, good to hear the good news! Hopefully, you'll have the nanny/daycare schd. all straightened out.
I think they said, if the school closes due to inclement weather, and we are at clinical, we need to ck out w/ whomever is in charge and leave the facility. Does that mean we would go in late to clinical if the school opens late due to weather?
