Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

Rosh,

I haven't gotten any shoes yet. I'm leaning towards a pair of Nurse Mates or a pair of Propets like Kristian got.

I also need to stock up on contact lenses and a new pair of glasses before school starts. I usually don't wear glasses, but I can imagine I'll need them for late-night studying!

I want to get everything I can think of out of the way before school starts: all doctor/dentist appts for the whole family (including the dog), deep cleaning and organizing of the house, monthly menu plans, and gather a bunch of crockpot recipes for the nights I'll be doing clinicals, etc. I HATE to be unprepared and knowing how stressful this semester is going to be is really making me want to start getting ready now.

You are funny Andrea but I totally understand the paranoia. It is a big, important, life changing event so of course you'd start thinking about all the negative possibilities. I'm not worried about someone breaking in to the box or anything like that. I just want to have confirmation that my packet fell into the right hands so there are no issues come registration day.

Andrea, you're hilarious!

I was thinking about stocking up on contacts too. I'd like to get another pr of glasses.

I wonder about being able to handle everything. I take care of many things for my parents and devote 1-2 days a wk for them. Neither one drives anymore so they are more dependent on others. I just had my dog at the vet for his annual, shots and his "butt squeeze". He has allergies which tend to cause his anal glands to fill much faster, so we've had take him every couple of months for the "squeeze" during allergy season.

I don't even want to think about cleaning the house. I just mowed and weed-whacked the yard and probably lost a few liters of sweat! I guess I'll consider this my workout for today.

It will certainly be alot of juggling to be able to keep up with everything else besides school. I just got a card in the mail saying my doggie is due for his snap test. He never needs a butt squeeze though lol! He eats a very fibrous diet. We used to feed him regular dog food, but then I started working at a holistic vet in Bethesda and I learned soooo much from them. Ever since then, we've fed him a homemade diet and a few times a week he gets raw bones. And he has never been in better shape! He's almost 9 years old but he still looks and occasionally acts like a puppy lol. He used to get upset stomachs on a regular basis, but that hasn't happened for about 5 years. And...no more butt squeezes are necessary! Lol

Mowing the lawn is DEFINITELY great exercise! But to do it on a hot day like today takes a lot of motivation! Good job :)

Thanks Andrea! Motivated or crazy...

We also changed his diet from kibble to homemade to a raw diet about 3 years ago. He was still having some gastrointestinal issue w/ the homemade, then we found out he had bladder stones. Since he's been on the raw, he's been doing really well- no more crystals in the urine, and no more tear stains. The things we do for our pets...

Did you guys get injections for varicella and hepatitis if you had positive titers for them? My titers were positive for both of them. On one of the sheets that they gave us, it states that you have to have 2 injections AND a positive titer for varicella and 3 injections AND a positive titer for hepatitis, but on the form that we give to our doctor, it says that we just need proof of positive titers for both. That's the one that we go with, right? I feel like I remember Prof. Matthews talking about that at orientation, but I just want to be sure. I'm ready to drop off my packet tomorrow, if all I needed was proof of positive titers. Thanks!

Hey Marissa, I'd go w/ what's on the health form. I remember them mentioning that there are inconsistencies in the packet. I had a positive titer for varicella and didn't get the vaccine and a neg. titer for Hep and started the series. Since yours are positive for both, I think that's all you need to show.

I did the same as Kristian...positive titer for varicella, no vaccine. Negative titer for Hep B, so I started the series.

Excellent. Thank you, ladies. :)

I dropped my sister's medical records off today at Dr. Marshall, a medical oncologist, and Dr. Jackson's, a surgical oncologist, offices at Georgetown. She has an appt. with Dr. Marshall on July 26 and we're working on getting her an appt. with Dr. Jackson. Makes me feel like we're getting closer to finding the right doctor's for her.

One last question re: the packets: did you guys include the drug screening/background check in your paperwork? I know Prof. Matthews said to turn it in at registration, but I'm just double-checking. I don't want anything to be missing.

Yes, the confirmations for both should be included. At registration, we'll get the form for the drug/alcohol screening. That one will be due in August.

Right, but she said that we would give her the confirmation form at registration and she would then give us the form to take to the lab. I guess I'll include it in the packet and bring a copy with me to registration, as well. Thanks, Andrea.
