monitoring techniques in home care

Is anyone aware of a nursing organization that gives standards of care to monitor home mechanical ventilation patients. Is it appropriate to monitor by means of an audio monitor at night to give privacy, etc. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you

I've only heard of overnight nursing care from home health agency nurses to monitor the patient. The nurse is in the room with the patient, or is within very close proximity so s/he can hear the alarms. The nurse periodically approaches to insure patient and ventilator are ok.
