I was recently accepted into an lvn program at an occupational center in southern california. To my knowledge the school I'll be attending does not accept fafsa. Having extra money while in school would be nice considering it will be difficult to hold a job while enrolled in the program.
My question is...
Are there any grants/ free money availabe to people in my situation?
If so, where do I even begin to look???
Also, are loans a good choice?
I'm really not sure what to do. This is all new to me.
Any information will be appreciated, thanks.

fafsa is the application form for free student financial aid. I can't believe there is a training progam on the face of the Earth in the USA that does not require a student to fill out a fafsa.
Not accepting certain types of aid, now that I can see. I had a LPN (LVN) program lined up and was accepted and sitting in the orientation class before I learned that that school no longer accepted the form of grant that I had. Why, you ask? Well, it comes from the government, and as I understand it, the government does not pay until AFTER the school has provided the service, and the school wanted to be paid up front, so they just opted out of that program. Maybe you are up against a problem like that?
With the changes in the direct student loan program, you'd be wise to work with the school's financial aid person and see what they do accept and how you might go about getting it. And since you are in CA, I don't know if the actual schooling tuition is state-paid or what. Student aid is for direct tuition, books, and other approved fees, etc. It's not granted to cover living expenses. It's paid to the school, not to you.
Back in the '70s, people could get loans and grants that were paid directly to them, then they could use it at their discretion. Some students then had the parents quietly give them the money to pay the tuition, then the students went out and bought cars or motorcycles or whatever with the grant or loan. In some cases, the parent was going to pay tuition, and the parent took out a low-interest loan via the student, and parent did something else like buy a car with it. There was a lot of misuse and corruption in those days. The programs were restructured and the requirements tightened as a result, to get control back.

The FAFSA form is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Not all education programs meet the federal qualifications/requirements for their students to be eligible for federal student loans. It may not be a matter of the school "not accepting" certain types of aid; it's more likely that the school doesn't qualify for its students to get federal loan/grant assistance. When that's the case, there's no reason to ask the students to submit a FAFSA.
Ok so a bit of an update....
I was able to get ahold of the person in charge of the program.
She told me that the school does not accept fafsa and when I asked if she knew of any programs that could help cover the costs for the year I won't be able to work she replied 'no, we told you when you signed up that it would be fulltime and we don't accept fasfa.'
Phew, good thing I didn't give her my name.
That was really no help at all.
I've still been searching all day for some kind of scholarships for an lvn program. There seem to be more for rn than anything else. I did find a couple on fastweb.com but the hunt for money continues...
Thanks for the replies thus far.
