Good morning!
Got up to a text from best friend at 5:45 in the morning which is early for him. But I texted him not realizing it was 10pm and that he's usually asleep by then. I got up and fed the dogs and went back to bed until 9pm.
He's having trouble with the insurance company trying to get a refund for our policy which we paid extra for "cancel for any reason" up to 72 hours prior to leaving, which we did. But of course they have people paid to find loopholes and ways to drag it on and deny coverage.
People from the north that take their Summer vacations here regret it. The time to vacation is late fall and Winter. People from the NW where they have extremely mild summers rarely move here. People from the NE move here for the mild winters. I'm used to it and heat tolerant when I'm out but love the air conditioning at home. I keep waiting for climate change to nudge our temps up, but the last time it his 100 was in the mid 80's. Will be 90 today.
I've considered moving when I retire because of the right wing politics, hurricanes and the high cost of living I.e. mostly insurance, but the weather doesn't bother me.
I texted management that I'll return to work next week but still wanted this week off to regroup. I really don't have much to do though.
I hope they open the barrier islands where best friend lives to the public today. He has no car but at least he seems well stocked on things. His water came back on yesterday and he has power. Apparently we endured the worst storm surge in 100 years. He took a walk and he said it's like a ghost town with most businesses closed including the grocery store nearby.
For the few years that we would go to Port St. Lucie over Spring break, where the in-laws had a place in a 55-and-over community, I looked forward to going to Florida in early April. Indiana was still quite cold (sometimes even snowing) and in Florida it was usually warm enough to swim in the pool and at the beach. And our visit to the Tampa area last December (2 Decembers ago?) was very pleasant. The risk management group will be going to Cape Coral (?) in February and I'm sure that will be a nice break, even though Oklahoma winters are nothing like Indiana winters. The time we went to Orlando in late June was incredibly hot and humid.
Most of the stuff I washed yesterday was sheets and towels. We have a lot of sheets but nothing seems to match. And it seemed to include few fitted sheets. Will have to sort them out and get rid of some. I'm pretty sure we only have queen-size beds now though I don't know how much difference that makes for the top sheet. The most worn-out of the towels are going to the animal shelter. Then there were a lot of clothes for the boys. Twin A is sort of sentimental, like me, and has a hard time letting go of some things. He also thinks he might "lose weight over the next few months" (that would be great) so wouldn't let me throw away or donate shirts that he currently can't wear.
I thought SiL was coming over around 1 PM today, but she didn't arrive until 3 PM. Then, when she told Nannie she was here to give her a shower and do her hair, Nannie said she didn't want to get in the shower. So, since SiL has other things to take care of, she said it was okay and she'd shower her when she comes back tomorrow. Then after she left Nannie asked me if we were going out. I said no, because it is about to rain.
Then Nannie told me that "someone" had just come in for a minute and left. I explained to her who it was and why she was here, and what Nannie said, and what SiL said.....Then Nannie said she didn't know any of that. (What a difference just a few minutes makes!) I told her again, and again she said, "Oh, well. I didn't know." .....I guess we are floating in The Twilight Zone! She is sort of dozing off, or trying to, and I hope she succeeds!
I didn't get much sleep last night; I turned the light back on and read another chapter in the book I'm reading, and try-try-tried again, but it wasn't until after 6:45 AM that I finally fell asleep. Had another busy dream that took place in the usual combination of college campus and hospital setting that often appears in my dreams. I got up at noon, and at least I only groaned and didn't cuss when I looked at the clock. I just am feeling kinda BLEH and MEH, even after my coffee!
Mah gawd, it is POURING-straight-down-thick-rain.....just pounding rain! But there is not one scintilla of wind whatsoever. So, even if Nannie conks out, I won't be going out anywhere now! I do need to go to the bank, post office, and grocery store, but I am blowing it off. I have no more laundry detergent or spot tx, so it's not hard to put my laundry off until I do get them. Looked at the other things listed in my notebook/brain, and said "Ppfftt!" to pretty much all of it! I probably will do last night's supper dishes, but that's all. And now, ten minutes later, the rain has stopped.....but I'm still staying home anyway! What a rebel!
It is supposed to rain again, more, tomorrow, but I won't have to worry about Nannie, anyway, since SiL will be taking her off for the afternoon. I may cancel my tire realignment for Thursday; it is supposed to cost only $124 with my coupon, but I don't know if I can last the rest of the month until my NEXT SS comes in, before I will feel comfortable about paying that. Oh well, so what, who cares!?!
Bye for now.
No Stars, we must have been on the same wavelength last night, for I didn't get to sleep till after 6am, either! Took a nap earlier, and just got back from a trip to the grocery store and Vietnamese restaurant (to get sandwiches for dh).
Hello all! The Line Fire (nearest us) is probably >80% contained. The checker at the grocery store said he was talking to a firefighter who came through his line earlier, who reported they were burning brush so it WON'T burn if the fire reaches it. The air is pretty smokey, apparently the smoke is not being blown to the east this afternoon.
We have waffled whether or not to take LuLu to the vet, we think she MAY have a UTI, but we're not sure. She goes hours (and sometimes days) where she pees normally, and then other times she suspiciously yowls when peeing, and goes into the litter box frequently. So we made an appointment for her to be seen on Thursday, with the vet dh likes. He has a busy, one-man practice, and he makes house calls. His office is probably 40 minutes away, but dh feels it is worth the drive. And, since we are retired, we can make the drive OK. She is eating and drinking normally, and was playing with her sister this morning, around 5am. But then again, I have always heard/read, "Cats hide illness VERY well." So, -- again, waffling. At least we have an appointment.
Prayers going out to all those affected by the hurricane, and those involved with clean-up and rebuilding.
Tweety, I'm SO glad you have power now, and that George has power and water! Is he going to rent a car for now, or just arrange to buy another one with his reimbursement? Nosey me!! I was looking up the size of a generator needed to power a fridge, coffeemaker, microwave, electric stove, AND A/C: All I can say is, it better be a PRETTY BIG ONE!! We have a 5000w generator in the RV, and it will power all we need in the RV. But the fridge runs on propane, and we hardly use the A/C. Usually we only need it for lights (which are all power-saving LEDs) and microwave. Big difference if you are talking about powering a house! Good luck to you, finding what you need!
Have a good evening!

Tweety glad the power is back on and that restaurant remained open
Ado that's a lot of laundry
Stars I hope there was no road flooding near you
NJ22 I have been to Florida but don't have any desire to go back, too hot and humid
Good day yesterday. Church in the morning, got there early to usher. Then a quick trip to Kohls to pick up a carpet cleaner, which I figure will simplify things if the cat continues to have issues with vomiting. Then stopped at a favorite candy store to celebrate my diet going well (bit of a contradiction I'm sure). Rest of the day was pretty quiet
Hopefully work will be OK, have not a lot scheduled for today but will have a coworker off. Have my Covid booster scheduled today. Also will need to get a card for my sister and BIL, their 25th anniversary is next month
Will be a bit warmer today, up to about 80
