Good morning!
Joe, hope you have a good day.
J22, hope you were able to do some birdwatching.
Stars, hope your husband's disposition continues to improve.
Dianah, hope your husband is on the mend.
I had a nice time at the beach. It's still nice and cool there in the evenings around sunset and after sunset with the breeze. Very pretty.
I have my eye exam today. I'm not sure if it's time for me to get new glasses but will get some if my insurance gives me discounts. Decided to use my Health Savings Account to pay for them. I decided to sell some of the stock portion of my HSA since my two crowns this year depleted my cash. Probably not a good time to sell stocks since they are so low but I need the cash.
Good morning, all!
Stars and dianah, hope your dh's continue to do well/improve.
Sourdough bread sounds good. I have a headache from Hades today. Hope it settles down soon. Feels like muscle tension so I will do some little stretches and see if that helps. And drink water.
Twin B and I cleared off the back porch yesterday evening and he power-washed it. Now to figure out what to do with the half bag of mulch and some potting soil, rather than leaving them on the table out there, and get everything arranged the way I want it.
Hi all. I just got back from a bike ride by the bay. It was partly sunny and quite enjoyable. At least up until the point when I tried to stop without unclipping from my bike pedals and fell on my knee. That’s going to leave a mark. Didn’t go bird viewing yesterday but saw a heron, a flicker and lots of gulls today. I got a message from my PCP office that I need an appointment to renew my NP med. I was just there in January but apparently that doesn’t work. I need to get some yard work done but it’s so stinking muddy! And now my knee hurts.
Ado, ugh, I hope your headache eases soon.
Joe, congrats on a successful bell performance. Hopefully your work is smooth.
I held out money in my HSA to get glasses this year but blew it on an MRI. I have an eye exam in August so will wait at least until then.
im almost finished with my latest Ken Follett book. They are historical novels, and this latest one is set during the reign of Elizabeth I. Stars, you might like them.
Hi Dianah, I hope things are going well at your place.
Good Afternoon~(I'm lying; it hasn't really been all that good.)
It's sunny, in the low 80's and breezy.
Today, hubby called about the ASUS computer I got (for X-mas?) the screen of which went black and ceased functioning. He had the phone on the table so we could both hear and talk to the representative. Unfortunately she had a very thick accent and,...well, I don't know how it could be both sing-song and monotone, but somehow it was. There was a lot of back and forth 'what?'s, and when asked a direct question she would just go back to her script for telling us what we needed to tell her (numbers, etc). An example: When she said the letters SMA she sounded like she was saying SNE. It took me three "could you please repeat that"s to get it straight. Soooo, apparently you can't just ship something to an address; you have to go to Fed-Ex and apparently they will know where to send it. HOW they will know that still eludes me, but, oh well. What the ASUS lady said was we were supposed to print some stuff off our computer to give to them. Well 1.) we have no printer, and 2.) how can we print it off from a non-functioning computer if it can't be turned on? I will have to bring my current (newest Acer) there so the info they sent to me can be taken off of it, as it was sent it on my gmail. (Yuh, like "scan the coded square" would work, since I don't HAVE a smart-phone. DUH!)
*****Anyway, PLEASE do not try to explain all this to me! Thanx! ******
I am so frustrated by the whole process, that I have decided to go to Fed-Ex tomorrow and let THEM figure it out. I get sooooo frazzed when something that is supposedly simple does not, well, it "does not compute". (know what I mean, Vern?) To me it is like Algebra, you have to understand some basic knowledge and terminology in order to go ahead with the problem, and I don't! Like I've said before, the Algebra teacher was quite unhelpful when I said, "It doesn't make any sense!" ----Her answer was, "It doesn't have to make any sense, you just have to know how to DO it." Well, DUH! But mostly ARGH!
Hubby went to get supper for himself and Nannie. I will eat some left-over stuff that is in the fridge. I was so brain-mangled when we got through with the computer stuff (or as far as we could go toward getting through with it) that I couldn't even tell him when he asked me..."What do you want me to get for your supper?" Mostly the two answers that came to me were, "I don't know" and "I don't care." I know there are things in the fridge, so I will go up and poke around to see what might be easy and appeal to me. I don't know why he gets frustrated if I don't want to eat anything from where he is picking the food up, and also that I don't care about eating so early, especially given the choice I made doesn't involve him doing anything!
I was going to go to the bank today, and to Books-A-Million for the last Outlander book, I think the title is something like "Tell the Bees I Have Gone" (?) But it is too late to go to the bank, and I don't feel like messing with the commuter traffic, and one night without reading about all the characters of that series won't kill me.
I don't think there is a ballgame on tonight. Unless I can find something different and interesting, it'll be real-crimes shows (The First 48, or Forensic Files and the like.)
Hubby seemed in a better mood earlier, but after he and Nannie got through eating, he wanted to know why I didn't bring her tray up to the kitchen. As he trudged the tray back upstairs: "Don't worry, I'll wash the dishes" he said with a big sigh. Well, "the dishes" were one glass, two forks and a spoon. I mean, it didn't seem urgent to me, but....OH WELL (dammit) ! Razzberries!
Now both he and Nannie are in their recliners with their eyes shut. I could go up to my room and pull the covers over my head, but it wouldn't help; I wouldn't be able to sleep, and if I did happen to fall asleep, hubby would come up and ask me why I was in my room and why was my head covered up.
News will be on in five minutes, and then, being as how hubby's mood has turned sideways, I'll bet you each a dollar that he'll begin verbalizing to the TV and/or the Anchor Person.( w00t! Be forewarned that I will win. "Scan the code" and it will tell you where to send your dollar-bills.)
Ah, a bike ride by the bay sounds pleasant. But not an injured knee. It's only 87 degrees today but somehow feels so much hotter than it has been. Headache finally eased up and I've had a pretty productive afternoon.
I had an eye exam last month and didn't get new lenses since she said she only "tweaked" the prescription. But I'm starting to notice some difficulties. I might go ahead and get them. The problem is I don't have an older pair that will work for me since I had my cataract surgery (one eye) last year. So doing without my frames for a few days if I needed to would be rough. Maybe they wouldn't need to, could just replace with the new lenses at the office. Or I could get a cheap frame with new lenses and have a back-up pair. I hate to spend extra money right now, though. What with gas and groceries being inflated and me now having a house payment, I think we need to be more careful.
Stars,
Hubs and I have been watching more of the Outlander series. It is entertaining, even though we both think the lovemaking scenes are over-the-top.
I have been re-reading the Harry Potter series and am maybe 1/3 of the way through the 3rd book. They're actually a little better than I remembered, and I'm picking up on things I missed when I first read them. The book my book club selected this month has not managed to grab my interest. I might make another attempt at reading it. I think our meeting is the 20th.
Yeah, Outlander is quite a bit outlandish with all the sex. That's one of the first things anybody ever says about it. It doesn't bother me, I just keep reading and shake my head, wondering if there are really any people in the world that "do it" so often and with such vigor, over the course of years and years.
What I DO like about the books is that the author (Gabaldon) is good at describing, filling out, and revealing the characters; she describes all the geographical terrains well, and she has a ton of folks researching historical times, helping her with the tangled back and forth, time-traveling histories. And my gawd, people tell ME I have a busy mind! If you were to look at her site on line, well, talk about organizing a gazillion options for her stuff. It's just interesting how INTO characters in historical times she gets; it kind of blows my mind. Her paperbacks are not small or thin, and I have finished, what? Seven of her books. Plus she has a bunch more novelettes and books about the Lord John character that we meet in the Outlander series .
Here's something kind of funny: earlier today when I told hubby I had finished the 7th book of the series, he told me that my BOOK REPORT would be due by midnight tonight! I suppose this post is my book report, and I've made it with 30 minutes to spare!
J22, ouch to the fall.
Ken Follet was my favorite writer back in the 80's. I loved his thriller novels and he was able to keep you on the edge of your seat until the last minute. I read one or two of his historical novels. I see he's still actively writing books.
In the 90's I switched genres to support gay male writers mostly. Currently reading a book called "Young Mungo" by a Scottish writer set in Scotland. Some of the dialect and references go over my head but I'm about 40 pages in and the character is quite interesting but an odd duck.
The longest series I ever read was 11 books long.

Tweety I'm fond of sourdough too
NJ22 hope you see some birds
Stars glad your DH is in a better mood
Was pleased with how the bell choir sounded on Sun, with so few people I wasn't sure that would be the case. And it kind of made up for having to get to church so early
J's allergies were really acting up yesterday so we held off on brunch. I did the cooking instead and and went to the used bookstore. Went for a walk later in the day as it was nice and not too hot. Finished the most recent season of Call the Midwife
Hoping things will be quieter this week at work, with no one out sick or on vacation.
Should be another nice day in the upper 70s, although we may get rain
