Stars hope you did not end up with a cold

NJ22 I have heard of them as a cold remedy

Hi Dianah

Ado I hope your back is better

The morning yesterday was productive, got the cooking done as well as the dishes and some Christmas cards

Had church and then a meeting after church.  Given the nice weather I went out for a walk before heading to the library.  Was unusually tired most of the day, I did get to sleep an hour later than usual yesterday but shouldn't have made that much of a difference

Today should be a pretty ordinary one, work and laundry

Will be quite a warm one too, up to the low 50s I think

Good morning!

Stars, sounds like you didn't get all that sick I hope.

I usually take zinc and elderberry with me when I travel to boost my immune system against colds, flu and covid.  Have make sure the elderberry is pure and not full of sugar and other stuff.  I haven't gotten a cold, flu or covid but several times came home with GI symptoms.  LOL   I'm still taking the zinc because for some reason I ordered a bottle with 250 tablets.  Zinc can be a bit problematic for plant based eaters, which I am primarily, so I figure it's not going to hurt.

Ado, sorry about the vehicle woes.  I was just commiserating with a coworker about every time things settle down financially something else pops up to keep us broke.  Middle class problems but it's so hard to stay ahead.

Work in med surg hell was annoying.  At shift change while I was in another room giving report to the night charge nurse a patient was belligerent and insisting on leaving a barreled herself out.  Problem was she was going through DT's and it wasn't safe.  I was extremely annoyed with the night charge nurse whom I was 99% done with report decided it was a day shift problem, barked out some orders to me and went about her evening and I had to call the supervisor, the risk manager, the nurse manager, security and the police.  I never would have done that.  I would have told the prior shift their shift was over and to let me handle it.  I clocked out at 8:45

I think this goes back to me being too nice but I don't want to be that coworker.  This particular night charge nurse is very much disliked by pretty much all of us and has had several coworkers go to the manager about her attitude.  I know I'm not there to be nice but also I'm a team player.  Bleh

Anyway, have to leave that all behind.  Off for the next three days except for a staff meeting.  After the staff meeting I'm have my interview for the permanent charge nurse position with my manager and one of the nursing executives.  I'm having second thoughts.  I like doing charge but I don't like doing charge.  But I don't think I can go back to the floor full time with the ratios.  Ugh.  I guess I'll honor the interview and take it from there.  I'm working the floor on Thursday and in charge on Friday.  I like doing both.

Today? 4 loads of laundry: Momo peed on my comforter; well, she missed or overshot the edge of the pee pad that I leave on the foot of the bed just-in-case, for all the good it did. Also my clothes, Nannie's clothes (because she sure does go through them), and a very large number of towels.

And THEN!!! Five or six days-worth of dishes because, OMG, I STILL haven't washed them! Tsk-tsk-tsk!  I had been doing pretty well by washing the dishes up after each meal, but I reckon that a week ago I hit a wall and went on strike against myself! 🙄

Nannie asked if we're going out today and I told her no, but SiL is coming tomorrow to get her up, give her a shower, do her hair, get her dressed, and then take her out.....probably first to get her nails repainted, and then to her house to hang out. Since there are a number of chores with which I can occupy myself, I ain't a'tellin' y'all what I'm going to do, because then, for some reason, I won't do it.

Momo alerted me TWICE last night that Our-Ms.-Nannie was up out of bed, so I did the back-to-bed routine twice, once at 2:40 AM, and the second time at 5:10 AM. But in spite of that, I did feel well-rested when I got up.

I have successfully warded off the potential cold; did the three supplements again last night, no coughing or sore throat today.

Ado, will you have time to sit with a heating pad and/or a cold pack on your back?  I hate auto-woes too! If I would win some kind of $,$$$,$$$ I could get four new tires, and have the dings taken out of the passenger side doors and have it repainted. I haven't even been to get an estimate on the dings and scrapes; I'm sure it's going to give me some severe sticker-shock, so I am avoiding finding out for the time.

Tweety, I hope you can figure out what you are going to do about the 'new' job interview and offer. That's an awkward place to be in. When she was little, my sister used to say, "Well, I want to, and I don't want to." Guess you KNOW that feeling! I hope it works out for you that 'the best' choice is made, whatever that may be. And if it is neither one....well, I wish you the strength and endurance to deal with it.

Doc's office called and wanted to know the date of Nannie's DNR order. It was in 2021 and that portion of the chart is....? in storage? or something! Anyway, once the nurse locates the original order, she will have the doc sign it so SiL can have it ASAP. It is needed for the application for daycare. And, I had to tell them that on most of her paperwork THEY have her listed as her middle name, and not her first name. She had so many cards from the bank, and other places and each one has a different variation of her names! But, at least the paperwork from the doc this time should not have her listed any more as a diabetic with epilepsy! All she's got is Swiss-Cheese for Brains, or as I often scramble it up when I try to SAY it....Switz Breeze for Chains.

One load of laundry is in the dryer, one load in the washer, and then 2 more loads to go. I am doing all MY laundries FIRST, so if I slack off and forget what I'm doing, it won't be MY laundry that is still waiting to be done.

Maybe I will get the impetus to go up and do all that dreaded dish-washing. I always used to say I had no use for a dish-washer, but y'know what? I am kinda changing my mind! Not that there is anywhere to put one in the kitchen.

Also if I got lotsa money, I would hire the twins from HGTV,  Drew and Jonathan, to come here and do this house for one of their "Don't Hate Your House" shows. I dream big sometimes, don't I ? ! They could make it stop feeling like a dark CAVE in the den, and delete the dining-room to take out a kitchen wall and expand the kitchen. Ooh, and then if Nannie was still here, I could deposit her in SiL's house for the duration! WOW! I have it all figured out ...... except for the money part.

meh, on with my day.................................

I forgot to mention that my horrorscope says that today I will have to deal with somebody who angers me beyond reason.

(NO, TWEETY, NOT YOU! )

We all know that I have a horrific, multi-faceted case of The Mother-In-Law Who Has Dementia Syndrome!

I have to attend to the laundry now. Maybe we'll have something delivered for supper and use paper plates and plastic sporks and foons!  😂🤣

I shall be joining you in laundry-land soon. Or I'll have nothing to wear to work. I mean, I guess I could always wear scrubs. That would extend my wardrobe by a few days.

Time or no, I will be sitting with an  ice pack tonight. I did heat most of the day yesterday so will try cold now. Also took orphenadrine (? Norflex?) and will do that again.

I took a minor excursion to laundry-land. Just one load of pants. We ended up getting ice cream last night at Stone Cold Creamery, where they mix=up your ice cream with other goodies. I had a combo they call Strawberry Blond: strawberry ice cream, strawberries, caramel sauce, graham cracker pie crust, and whipped topping. It was pretty good, but so much richer and sweeter than anything I've had in a long time.

I tried to sleep in because I tossed and turned last night, but the dogs insisted that it was TIME TO EAT! So I made them go for a long walk afterwards. It was partly sunny and pleasant. I saw a Great Blue heron fly by. They always remind me of the pterodactyls from Jurassic Park.  I am surprised at how many people ask me what kind of dogs I have and if they are puppies. They have a pretty distinctive look. Anyway, I did a little yard clean up, put a few more decorations. We seem to have lost the Christmas tree skirt, which is weird. I think dh put it in the box with the other tree and taped it shut.

Good grief, Tweety, that is bizarre how that other nursed acted. I am just on the outside looking in, but that seems like a patient safety issue. I used to like patient care, but I started to suspect that the day charge was purposely giving me the assignments from h***.  All patients needing hourly checks (glucose, bp, CIWA), and or freq. toileting, and no aide, because they got pulled to do a 1:1 on another floor.

I had to look up orphenidrine. I'd never heard of it. I hope it is effective.

I really really dislike dishes. When we lived in Idaho ( 5 years when the kids were wee) none of the rentals we lived in had a dishwasher. I remember standing at the sink, washing dishes in the 100 degree heat with sweat rolling down my face. Ugh. None of the rentals had air conditioning, either. We basically lived in the basement during the Summer, but the kitchen was on the ground floor. Ugh. Lucky for me, dh does most of the dishes. And we have a nice dishwasher.

TWEETY! ~

I did the dishes!!   😚 😇

It took me from 8:15 PM to 8:40 PM, but they are done, and the kitchen counters got a few swipes, too!
